As a marketer, it’s more confusing than ever to know when and how to apply the ever-increasing number of solutions designed to help monitor, measure and manage social media. Here’s a framework to help cut through the clutter. Let me know if you find this framework useful in helping you choose the right social media monitoring, measurement, management and metrics for your organisation. In compiling this framework, here are my observations: Vendor positioning is confusing As Altimeter’s Jeremiah Owyang pointed out earlier in the year, buyers are often confused by the vendors in the Social Media Management Systems space. Measurement is mostly monitoring Even for experienced buyers, the distinction between measurement and monitoring can be equally confusing. Which brings me to my final observation: Metrics are not the same as data Recommendation. Social Media Score May Set You Apart In Job Search. Vote Now: Do You Think YouTube Video Is Important In Social Media Marketing? It was when I was reading a Comscore report on how many online videos that the US consumer was viewing each month that I came to a realization that “being found online” was not just about “textual content” anymore but that video was the new ”teeming hotspot”. The latest generation don’t so much as read but “watch videos” I was raised in the era of books, reading and offline content.. because the Internet was not even on the horizon whenI was growing up .. in fact colour TV was simply “amazing”. .. man had just landed on the moon… Ugg boots were “cool” and “Flares” were still the rage. The “Yellow Pages” were the place to be and fax broadcasting was the new frontier of marketing. So if you want to be found you need to be not only using “Google” but also “YouTube” as it is the second largest search engine after Google. Yes or No 61inShare. Human-computer-human interaction. There’s an unformed thought I’ve had bouncing around in my head since I first tried out Siri on my 4S. I’d have liked to develop it into something more robust, but it’s a pretty simple idea so I’ll just leave it here. You can’t say to Siri, “I guess I’d like to do something later like maybe a movie or just something laid back like coffee in the area or probably not a bar because they’re so noisy—maybe one of those coffee places with lots of books and definitely not Jitters because that place smells like underarm” and expect Siri to help you in any way.
You learn quickly that Siri has certain expectations, certain limitations, and must be spoken to with a certain cadence reflecting a certain pattern of thought. Speaking to Siri is a lot like speaking to someone whose English isn’t so strong. It works better if you naturally pre-diagram your sentences and order them rudimentarily. It’s safe to assume that as we learn to talk to Siri, Siri learns to listen to us. Colleges using coupons to attract new students. Turning social media attention into income. By Srininvas Rao, Contributing {grow} Columnist A few months ago I was let go from my job heading up the social media efforts for Flightster. I immediately entered panic mode and frantically searched for a job only to realize that living in Costa Rica was going to severely limit my chances of finding anything.
So I decided to table my job search and return to the United States. Over the last two years I’d seen several people use their social media presence to help them find a job. Given that I’d built a decent footprint online, I thought I wouldn’t face any of the typical challenges of a job search. I tried leveraging my blog and my connections to launch a job search campaign. I thought there was no way I could fail with this considering I’d seen people who were not nearly as connected as I am wind up with multiple job offers. Despite my tireless work in the “attention economy,” I could not convert this to cash. Why the Social Media Job Campaign Failed.
