15 APIs developers need to know

Among these developer tools are at least 14,000 public APIs (application program interface), provided by companies to save time, directly solve developer problems or augment their popular services. While disappearing for a day or two diving into something new can be great fun, not everything immediately leads to useful results. I've put together a list of great APIs, based upon years of research (and a few opinions). So instead of spending the rest of your life exploring every API, you can first focus on the 15 in this article. 01. There may be no API more responsible for the growth in publicly available APIs than Google Maps. A basic use case is plotting places, such as local search results, as markers on a map. It was 1960, not a time when women were encouraged to seek out high-powered technical work. Hamilton, a 24-year-old with an undergrad degree in mathematics, had gotten a job as a programmer at MIT, and the plan was for her to support her husband through his three-year stint at Harvard Law. After that, it would be her turn—she wanted a graduate degree in math. But the Apollo space program came along.

How an artificial language from 1887 is finding new life online

Duolingo: Course Status. You might be surprised to see our crazy progress this week, but I'm afraid it's artificial this time. Due to how easy Esperanto is, we deleted all the modules (mostly having to do with advanced verb tenses in national languages). Since we deleted them, the Duolingo system now believes we have a lot less work to do than we actually do. Untitled. We recommend the following sequence of courses for learning Esperanto at lernu!. In general, we recommend finishing each course before progressing to the next one; however, if you find that the course "Bildoj kaj demandoj" doesn't hold your attention, you can go straight to "Ana Pana" without finishing it. The courses "Ana Pana", "Ana renkontas", and "Kio okazas? " Just 2 weeks learning Esperanto can get you months ahead in your target language.

Whenever I meet new people and try to help them with their language learning missions, when they hear that I have already learned to speak a few languages and ask me to list them, the one that always gets their attention the most is Esperanto. Most people have never even heard of it, but occasionally they say that they thought it was dead and that maybe I learned it as an alternative to Klingon or Na’vi just for the hell of it, since “nobody actually speaks it”. Well, today I am going to make a suggestion that I included as one of many other language hacks in the Language Hacking Guide, and it has nothing to do with saving the world, or peace and love between all races with a universal language. I don’t learn Esperanto to aim for a better world some day – to me it has very practical uses right now to me and to many learners.

Now imagine that every email you send is as great as these occasional all-stars you receive. Impossible? Not at all. Worth shooting for? The Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project (CNP) is the largest systematic effort ever undertaken to analyze the scope, structure, financing, and role of the private nonprofit sector in countries around the world in order to enrich our understanding of this sector, and to provide a sounder basis for both public and private action towards it. Begun in 1991, this project grew out of an increased need for basic information about civil society organizations following a dramatic “associational revolution.” This revolution forced a reappraisal of the respective roles of the market and the state focused new attention on the role of private, nonprofit organizations; however, despite this growing importance, these organizations remained poorly understood almost everywhere, making it difficult to determine their capabilities or to attract attention to their challenges.
