Hello! I guess this is where I try to paint u a picture of what I am like.. Well, that could be difficult, because “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder”. To some, I am an absolute wonder, yet I've once been described as a cross between a B*tch and a Barbed Wire Fence, so its all in the perspective, I'm sure you'll agree! LOL Bottom line is though, I'm just me. Just like you, I do what needs to be done to get by on a day-to-day basis. My life is often interrupted by a family crisis or another, and without a single doubt, family is always Number One. I'd have it no other way! I'm hardworking, loyal, honest, funny, kind, spiteful, snide, passionate, dedicated, soft-hearted, opinionated, smart, knowledgeable, understanding, hard-assed, patient, trusting, and caring, usually all in the same day! LOL I'm sure I possess many other fine and not so fine traits, but you get the idea. Next to my family and friends, animals and the environment are the most important things in my life. Animal lover and tree-hugger extraordinaire, I love all living / breathing things (with the exception of a very few ppl out there). Major biological discovery…inside the Chernobyl reactor??

There has been an exciting new biological discovery inside the tomb of the Chernobyl reactor. Like out of some B-grade sci fi movie, a robot sent into the reactor discovered a thick coat of black slime growing on the walls. Since it is highly radioactive in there, scientists didn’t expect to find anything living, let alone thriving. Taking the Lead on Climate Change. I am troubled by the number of engineers who persist in denying climate science.

Taking the Lead on Climate Change

Multiple independent surveys have found that 97% of climate scientists (i.e. scientists from any field who publish papers about the climate) are in agreement that humans are causing global warming. This conclusion has been endorsed by all national academies of science, from the United States to the Vatican. To contradict this consensus implies that scientists are guilty of either pervasive incompetence or a global conspiracy.

The Failed Whitewashing of Idle No More. I live in a world where everything ends up completing a full circle when it comes to issues that are of relevance to First Nations people.

The Failed Whitewashing of Idle No More

Or maybe I live in a world where I feel like tires are constantly spinning and where traction is never being reached and forward momentum is never being gained, or if it does for a small period of time, it is never maintained. I’m not sure which idiom works best here and I suppose that on a day to day basis, my feelings about the world I live in are in flux. As I write, an important series of events has recently transpired here in Canada and the ripple effects can be felt across the globe as First Nations people have spent the last two months engaged in activities related to the Idle No More movement. Enbridge pipeline construction in the Athabasca region. Source: Enbridge. A slide presentation by geologist David Hughes includes charts showing the wide discrepancy between commonly accepted growth scenarios for the Alberta oil sands, and significantly higher projections put forth by Enbridge and other proponents of fast build-out of oil sands infrastructure.

The slides also include satellite views of the oil sands showing growth over nearly three decades. View the slides here. The Northern Gateway Pipeline will explosively increase the scale of oil sands production at a level not in the national interest, says David Hughes, one of Canada's foremost energy analysts. By tripling oil sands production rates above 2010 levels, the project will "compromise the long term energy security interests of Canadians, as well as their environmental interests," charges Hughes. Environmental activists reeling as Keystone pipeline gains momentum - The Hill's E2-Wire

Opponents of Keystone are furious at State’s environmental assessment of the project, which brushed aside of one of their central arguments against it: namely, that it would exacerbate clime change by expanding the use of oil sands. “The State Department’s conclusions are so off-base that they’re borderline absurd,” Daniel Kessler, a spokesman with climate group 350.org, told The Hill.Environmental groups vowed they would continue to pressure President Obama to kill the pipeline, but acknowledged the blow that Friday’s report delivered to their cause. The State Department’s report found that the Canada-to-Texas pipeline would have little effect on accelerating oil sands production and climate change.

Will Harper's Throne Speech address 'Canada's Termination Plan' against First Nations? As I wrote in my last newsletter (FNSB Vol.10, Issues 7-10) on September 4, 2012, Prime Minister Harper launched three new policy measures intended to speed up Canada’s longstanding Plan to Terminate First Nations Inherent, Aboriginal and Treaty rights. Termination -- in this context means the ending of First Nations pre-existing sovereign status through federal coercion of First Nations into Land Claims and Self-Government Final Agreements that convert First Nations into municipalities, their reserves into fee simple lands and extinguishment (through modification) of their Inherent, Aboriginal and Treaty Rights. Canada’s Termination Plan was ramped up on September 4, 2012, through these three policy measures among other federal initiatives, including:
