How to write a thesis (Bachelor, Master, or PhD) and which software tools to use - SciPlore Translations: Chinese (thanks to Chen Feng) | Portuguese (thanks to Marcelo Cruz dos Santos) | Russian (thanks to Sergey Loy) | send us your translation How to write a PhD thesis? This is not a trivial task. Related literature needs to be found, notes need to be taken and finally the thesis has to be drafted and written including the creation of the bibliography. Dozens of books exist about how to do a literature survey and how to write a PhD and scholarly literature in general (e.g. [1-9]). However, software tools that might help in doing a literature survey or writing a thesis are hardly covered by these books, if at all. You will spend the next couple of years doing your PhD (or months if you are doing a Master or Bachelor). You have read my mind. You are helping to tackle the biggest obstacle to my research I really like SciPlore’s approach. I’m in the middle of my PhD and was becoming overwhelmed with the amount of information I need to manage. Great software! I love your product

Voodoo magic Think back to some of the most outstanding creatures in recent films, and Rhythm & Hues will come up as one of the key visual effects studios behind that work – Richard Parker in Life of Pi or perhaps Aslan in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Hundreds of talented artists worked on these complicated creatures, a feat that was aided by Voodoo – Rhythm’s proprietary extensible toolset for rigging, animation, camera tracking, matchmoving, fur, crowds, and 2.5D work. In fact, Voodoo has been so influential in helping to bring to life Rhythm’s character animation and visual effects that it was recognized this year with a Scientific and Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. That award was presented to Peter Huang and Chris Perry for their architectural contributions to, and to Hans Rijpkema and Joe Mancewicz for the core engineering of, the Voodoo application framework. Watch Rhythm & Hues’ Voodoo overview video. What is Voodoo? A demo of Rampage.

ArcGIS to 3d | Studio Smuts This tutorial was created to help our students circumnavigate the horror that is ESRI’s ArcMap software. The GIS data used in this tutorial (PLUTO NYC) can be found here: MapPLUTO: MapPLUTO Reference: Lets start by breaking down the number of steps we have to go through before we can export 3D data from this package. Open ArcMap Import a shape file containing the building footprints and building height metaData.Save the area that we want to extrude in 3D as a new shapefile. Step 1 Open ArcMap and begin a new blank project. Step 2 Next, you need to point to a .SHP file for ArcGIS. Click the “Add Folder” icon as shown below: Once you have “mapped” the folder you can then access it and choose your .SHP file. Now you should have something similar to the image below showing the island of Manhattan or what ever other city you are looking at. Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6

Software for Writing a PhD Thesis - Joshua L. Mann There are four categories of software for thesis writing: (1) project organizing; (2) word-processing; (3) bibliographic organization; and (4) original language research. Here are some of the best programs, along with those I find essential to my PhD thesis and scholarly writing workflow. [UPDATED April 2014] Now I’ll be using a macbook pro for the task, but many of the software programs I mentioned can run on mac or pc (though some run better on one or the other). Project organizing/note taking. Some might use a word-processing program for this while others might find a specialized program instead. I’ve decided on a more complicated yet powerful program, Scrivener. So why use this and a word processor? Scrivener is very affordable and they offer great customer support. Epub Format Construction Guide - HXA7241 - 2007 Introduction This is a guide for making IDPF Epub ebooks/publications. It is mostly an annotated example: this document itself in Epub form. Not all details/variations are mentioned, but enough to obviate need of the specifications for normal use. Included also is a description of optional extra styling for a particular reader (but still completely conformant). You need an understanding of and ability to make XHTML/CSS and XML documents. ‘Epub’ is a standard from the International Digital Publishing Forum. Adobe Digital Editions ‘ADE’ is one of the first readers for Epub publications. This guide was written using ADE version 1.0.467 . 1: XHTML Documents Make the main content with XHTML, CSS, and images. Relevant specifications: OPS, XHTML, CSS. Pandoc - About pandoc The city in the comics Architecture, contemporary cities and comics are three issues, declared from the outset with the title of the ehibition, that was curated along with Jean-Marc Thevenet. Going further into detail, can you explain what it talks about? The exhibition "Archi et BD: la ville dessinée" (at the Cité de l'Architecture up to the end of November) tells the story of cities as interpreted by the authors of comics and graphic novels. The real subject of the exhibition is in fact the city, more than architecture. The exhibition has been laid out in a chronological sequence, beginning in the early twentieth century with Winsor McCay, the creator of Little Nemo, a legendary figure who "flies" between buildings in Chicago. What were your objectives in setting up a show of this kind? Compared to the cartoonists, there are far fewer architects. Perhaps architects don't know enough about comics to use them? Are there architects who have chosen to use comics as a means of presenting their projects?
