Originally from the United States, Kris Kuksi has spent most of his childhood in the countryside with his mother and two siblings, that were much older than him. His father abandoned him and his stepfather hadn’t given him much attention or an education. More than that, he had to endure the severe treatments applied by his alcoholic stepfather . All these have made Kuksi take refuge in an imaginary world. This imaginary world came to light years later materialized in his work. Many consider that the artist’s works are very gruesome, but you can’t just stay indiferent when facing them.
In personal reflection, Kris feels that in the world today much of mankind is oftentimes frivolous and fragile, being driven primarily by greed and materialism. His work has received several awards and prizes and has been featured in over 100 exhibitions in galleries and museums worldwide including the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
