Second Life also has its own virtual currency, the Linden Dollar (L$), which is exchangeable with real world currency.[15][16] Second Life is intended for people ages 16 and over, with the exception of 13–15-year-old users, who are restricted to the Second Life region of a sponsoring institution (e.g., a school).[17][18] Philip Rosedale formed Linden Lab in 1999[19] with the intention of developing computer hardware to allow people to become immersed in a virtual world.
Second Life began to receive significant media attention in 2005 and 2006, including a cover story in BusinessWeek magazine featuring the virtual world and Second Life avatar Anshe Chung.[24] By that time, Anshe Chung had become Second Life's poster child and symbol for the economic opportunities that the virtual world offers to its residents. Ivan Tomek(Jodrey School of Computer Science, Acadia University, Canadaivan.tomek@acadiau.ca) Abstract: Knowledge management systems provide three basic services: information capture, storage and organization, and access.
This paper argues that collaborative virtual environments (CVEs) provide features that make them uniquely suited as an integral part of information capture. After introducing CVEs, we present our work in this area and outline our future plans. Key Words: Knowledge management, computer supported collaborative work, collaborative virtual environments, information capture. If you are like me, you probably have some of your Second Life friends among your Facebook friends. And until recently, we had no good way of connecting the two worlds. But now we can; and there isn't just one, but two Facebook applications that can help you with that.
Second FriendsThe first app (by release order) is called Second Friends and was developed by Art Fossett(I'm using the developer's SL names in both cases). The app lets you display your avatar name and picture and a list of your Facebook friends that are using Second Friends on your Facebook profile. To add and check for Facebook friends that are using Second Friends, you have to go to the My Friends tab under the app, and a list of friends (including their RL and SL names) will be added to your profile. Second Life LinkThe second app, Second Life Link, was developed by Fire Centaur and another developer.
That's how my friends using Second Life Link can see me Note: This is just an archive post. Virtual Worlds Research Discussion Group / Second Life Educators Mail Forum. Nabble • Free Forum • Embeddable Web Apps.
