From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Method of determining a location In trigonometry and geometry, triangulation is the process of determining the location of a point by forming triangles to the point from known points.
Applications[edit] Finding the position of a distant object B with the angles observed from points A and C and the baseline b between them In surveying[edit] Specifically in surveying, triangulation involves only angle measurements at known points, rather than measuring distances to the point directly as in trilateration; the use of both angles and distance measurements is referred to as triangulateration.
In computer vision[edit] Computer stereo vision and optical 3D measuring systems use this principle to determine the spatial dimensions and the geometry of an item.[2] Basically, the configuration consists of two sensors observing the item. History[edit] The use of triangles to estimate distances dates to antiquity. Usually this communication is an expressed dissatisfaction with the main party. For example, in a dysfunctional family in which there is alcoholism present, the non-drinking parent will go to a child and express dissatisfaction with the drinking parent. This includes the child in the discussion of how to solve the problem of the afflicted parent. Sometimes the child can engage in the relationship with the parent, filling the role of the third party, and thereby being "triangulated" into the relationship.
Or, the child may then go to the alcoholic parent, relaying what they were told. In instances when this occurs, the child may be forced into a role of a "surrogate spouse" The reason that this occurs is that both parties are dysfunctional. Triangulation (social science) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Triangulation can be used in both quantitative and qualitative studies as an alternative to traditional criteria like reliability and validity. Purpose[edit] The purpose of triangulation in qualitative research is to increase the credibility and validity of the results.
Several scholars have aimed to define triangulation throughout the years. Types[edit] Data triangulation: involves time, space, and persons.Uses multiple sources of data that all have a similar focus.Investigator triangulation: involves multiple researchers in an investigation.Theory triangulation: involves using more than one theoretical scheme in the interpretation of the phenomenon.Methodological triangulation: involves using more than one method to gather data, such as interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documents.
