Educational document A diploma is a document awarded by an educational institution (such as a college or university) testifying the recipient has graduated by successfully completing their courses of studies.[1] Historically, it has also referred to a charter or official document of diplomacy.[2][3] The diploma (as a document certifying a qualification) may also be called a testamur, Latin for "we testify" or "certify" (testari), so called from the word with which the certificate begins;[4] this is commonly used in Australia to refer to the document certifying the award of a degree.[5][6][7] Alternatively, this document can simply be referred to as a degree certificate or graduation certificate, or as a parchment.[8] The certificate that a Nobel laureate receives is also called a diploma.
Usage[edit] Australia[edit] In Australia, there are three varieties of Diploma currently recognized by the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF): Canada[edit] Greece[edit] Hong Kong[edit] India[edit] Diploma mill. Issuer of fraudulent dilpomas A diploma mill (also known as a degree mill) is a business that sells illegitimate diplomas or academic degrees.[1][2] The term diploma mill is also used pejoratively to describe any educational institution with low academic admission standards, low job placement rate, or low average starting salaries of its graduates. The degrees can be fabricated, falsified, or misrepresented.[3] These businesses may claim to give credit for relevant life experience, but should not be confused with legitimate institutions that award credit in prior learning assessment programs.
They may also claim to evaluate work history or require submission of a thesis or dissertation for evaluation to give an appearance of authenticity.[4] Diploma mills are frequently supported by accreditation mills set up for the purpose of providing an appearance of authenticity.[5] Terminology[edit] Characteristics[edit] Accreditation and authenticity[edit] Teaching[edit] Facilities[edit] Australia[edit] ☢️ Recognition. Diploma Supplement. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Diploma Supplement is a document accompanying a European higher education diploma, providing a standardised description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies completed by its holder.
Overview[edit] The Diploma Supplement is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were successfully completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which the supplement is appended. It should be free from any value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition. The Diploma Supplement provides a common structure to translate qualifications across the EU. It is a flexible, non-prescriptive tool which has been shown to save time, money and workload by an EU working party.[1] Diploma Supplements were gradually implemented at European universities as part of the Bologna Process, since approximately 1999.
