Mass suicide. Mass suicide occurs when a number of people kill themselves together. Examples[edit] Mass suicide sometimes occurs in religious or cultic settings. Defeated groups may resort to mass suicide rather than being captured. Suicide pacts are a form of mass suicide unconnected to cults or war that are sometimes planned or carried out by small groups of frustrated people. Although its form does not break away from traditional patterns of music documentary, the Czech-African film Punk in Africa introduces the scarcely explored territory of artistic underground in the black continent. Naturally enough, the Prague-based director Keith Jones and the screenplay writer Deon Maas develop the storyline of the film chronologically, giving use to the social-political context around the south of Africa that formed the region’s punk movement.
We are assured about it since the first subtitle appears on screen, citing Fela Kuti: ”In Africa music cannot be for entertainment. It must be for revolution.” Film of the Week Punk in Africa August 8 - 14, 2011 It is the unique thematic and, most importantly, the geographic focus of Punk in Africa that adds value to the whole film. Plot[edit] In 1962, college freshmen Lawrence "Larry" Kroger and Kent Dorfman seek to join a fraternity at Faber College. They visit the prestigious Omega Theta Pi House's invitational party, but are not welcomed there. They then try next door at Delta Tau Chi House, where Kent's brother was once a member, making Kent a "legacy". There they find John "Bluto" Blutarsky urinating outside the fraternity house.
Dean Vernon Wormer wants to remove the Deltas from campus due to repeated conduct violations and low academic standing. In the cafeteria the next day, smooth-talking Eric "Otter" Stratton tries to convince the stuck-up Mandy Pepperidge to abandon her boyfriend, Marmalard, and date him instead. Bluto and D-Day steal the answers to an upcoming psychology test, but it turns out the Omegas planted the exam mimeograph and the Deltas get every answer wrong. To take their minds off their troubles, Otter, Donald "Boon" Schoenstein, Flounder and Pinto go on a road trip.
Cast[edit] Leon Czolgosz. Leon Frank Czolgosz (Polish form: Czołgosz,[3] Polish pronunciation: [ˈt͡ʂɔwɡɔʂ]; May 5, 1873[1] – October 29, 1901; also used surname "Nieman" and variations thereof)[4] was the assassin of U.S. President William McKinley. In the last few years of his life, he claimed to have been heavily influenced by anarchists such as Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman. Early life[edit] Czolgosz was born in Alpena, Michigan,[5] in 1873, one of eight children of Paul Czolgosz and his wife Mary Nowak, Polish Catholic immigrants.
Czolgosz's ancestors probably came from what is now Belarus. The Czolgosz family moved to Detroit when Leon was five. Interest in anarchism[edit] In 1898, after witnessing a series of similar strikes (many ending in violence), and perhaps ill from a respiratory disease, Czolgosz went to live with his father who had bought a fifty-five acre farm the year before in Warrensville, Ohio. References[edit] How to Write Like a Scientist. I didn’t know whether to take my Ph.D. adviser’s remark as a compliment. “You don’t write like a scientist,” he said, handing me back the progress report for a grant that I had written for him. In my dream world, tears would have come to his eyes, and he would have squealed, “You write like a poet!” In reality, though, he just frowned. He had meant it as a criticism. I don’t write like a scientist, and apparently that’s bad. I asked for an example, and he pointed to a sentence on the first page. The word was “lone,” as in “PvPlm is the lone plasmepsin in the food vacuole of Plasmodium vivax.” I hadn’t meant the word to be poetic. So I changed the word to “only.” Using the first person in your writing humanizes your work.
I’m still fairly new at this science thing. Why can’t we write like other people write? I once taught two different college science writing classes in back-to-back semesters. We’re taught that scientific journal articles are just plain different from all other writing. FUCK! i'm in my twenties. The ruins and haikyo aficionado in me couldn’t resist making a post about Tokyo Genso‘s fabulous art depicting post-apocalyptic Japan. The illustrations have a breathtaking otherworldly quality that perfectly capture the sort of scenes I regularly come across while exploring ruins, albeit of course, on a much grander and majestic scale.
Some of the scenes really aren’t stretching the truth that much either. Head into the backstreets of Japan and you’ll quickly find dilapidated old buildings and creeping plants reclaiming man-made structures for mother nature. Apply that to the iconic landmarks of central Tokyo and other areas of Japan, and you have some gorgeous concept art for what Tokyo could look like if man were wiped from the planet. The magic button — Make Everything OK. The Best New Way to Bring Your Lunch. I’ll admit it—my workday lunches can get pretty boring. I always think I’m going to finally make use of all those delicious recipes I’ve been pinning away, but then nighttime rolls around and I’m too busy watching really important things like The Bachelorette and Vampire Diaries.
And then morning comes, and I’m running around like a headless chicken and I’m lucky if I remember my keys and bus pass on the way out the door, let alone find time to throw a tasty lunch together. But with a teensy amount of planning, delicious lunches can be just a few easy steps away. All it takes is a trip to the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon, a couple pantry staples, some mason jars, and an hour of your time. Why mason jars, you might ask? There really are only two rules to the mason jar salad: Start with the dressing or sauce, and end with the lettuce and herbs. The best part is you can make five salads at a time, and they’ll stay fresh for the whole week—just grab and go on your way out the door! Are you simply moving through your day, without fully living?
I did this for many years. It was as if life were just passing by, and I was waiting for something to happen. I always felt like I was preparing for something later. But today isn’t preparation for tomorrow. Fully live today by being mindful. You don’t need to do all of these, but give a few of them a try to see if they make your day better. Mindfulness Rituals Ritual isn’t about doing a routine mindlessly. Here are a few of my favorites: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. These rituals aren’t the only time you should be mindful, but they’re great reminders.

Subconscious Information Processing. It's fathers day and I thought I'd tell a story about my dad and something he taught me a long time ago. I was in middle school and I had a school project due the next day and it came up at dinner that I had not done the project. My dad made me stay up very late that night until I had completed it. And he stayed up with me. He made sure I understood two things that evening. But the second thing he explained to me was more subtle and way more powerful. He explained that once your brain starts working on a problem, it doesn't stop. I've taken that approach with every big problem I've faced ever since. I'm a big fan of subconscious information processing. Thanks dad for that tip.
