History Pockets. History Pockets Over the last 4 years of homeschooling my boys we have had many highlights. Many, many things that have made school fun and interesting for the boys. One of those things has been History Pockets. We used The Story of the World 1 along with the Activity Book for ancient history. The book is a delight, and offered the academics we wanted. We supplemented it with a huge list of books, because we love to read. We used the activity book’s review questions, color in pages, and maps, but I didn’t like the activities. , colored every picture, map, and did every activity.

We had hundreds of these guys. We made lots of mummies. See how happy this mummy is? The outside of a pop-up courtyard, and the inside. A little booklet, Some other activities. Here are some ‘puppets’ we made with these pictures. We didn’t make pockets to store the activities, but instead stored each activity in a page protector and put it in a binder. We also used History Pockets: Ancient Rome, Grades 4-6+ Story of the World Volume 2: The Middle Ages Book List. You Wouldn't Want To Be.... Oblivious to this Series! You Wouldn’t Want To Be….

Oblivious to this Series! I love teaching my boys history, and it’s so easy to teach with the great books that are out there now. History no longer has to be the boring reading out of dry books that we often knew as a kids. Let me show you this great series, You Wouldn’t Want To Be, that has helped liven up our history lessons. These books are great for kids of any age. My youngest started ‘reading’ them when he was 4, and my oldest, 14, still reads every one that comes into the house. I could take some picture of mine so you can have a look inside, but I can do way better than that. We have used lots of these books with SOTW, and I have put most, I think, of the available titles in the following list. Introduction: What is HistoryChapter 1: Earliest People (6000 BC)You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Mammoth Hunter! Chapter 2: Egyptians Lived on the Nile River (3000BC) Chapter 3 The First Writing (3200 BC)You Wouldn’t Want to Be an Egyptian Mummy! Free web book above.

Crafts for kids, the easy way. Crafts for Kids, the easy way part 2 Part 1 Part 2: This morning kids wanted to do some more crafts. Sunday means nothing to them, don’t they know it’s my day off? Never mind, with Ancient Far East Discovery Kit craft for kid is easy. We decide to do the fish printing, Gyotaku. Gyotaku is an ancient Japanese custom of taking a rubbing of a fish. First we carefully washed the fish, rubbing from head to tail so not to loosen the scales. Then we used some paper towels to pat dry. They had multiple goes at this. The finished artwork. All crafted out! Titan comes in for a post crafts hug. Crafts for kids, the easy way. Crafts for Kids, the easy way. My 3 younger boys, ages 8, 9 and 11 love hands on projects, make and do, art, and anything that makes a mess. I am forever looking for crafts for kids that require very little instruction, organisation, and input from me.

I have lots of ideas but struggle with procuring all the necessary materials and supplies. I recently ordered 1 Ancient Far East Discovery Kit to have it on-hand when we got to that time in history. The website says the kit contains everything needed for one child for each project, so I ordered 2 Ancient Far East Additional Student Kits to be sure there was everything needed for 3 children. I planned to keep this kit until we got to the relevant time in our history studies. The kit has an actual preserved gray perch (fish) in it. We started with the Kokeshi dolls. Modern day Kokeshi dolls. After the dolls, since the paint was out, they went looking for other things to paint. This is a Christian kit. Review part 2. Story of The World Volume 1, Book list. Check the price of all these books with The Book Depository. They have free shipping, so are especially useful if you are outside the USA. Here is a list of the books we used for The Story of the World: Volume 1: Ancient Times .

We love ancient history, and read a lot of books, so it took us about 1 1/2 years to complete. Older boys, grade 4/5 and 6/7 at the time, read all the novels. There is no need to read anything like what they read. Introduction: What is History Awesome Archaeology (Knowledge) Chapter 1: Earliest People (6000 BC) Warrior Scarlet , by Rosemary Sutcliff The Boy of the Painted Cave Leap Through Time: The First Humans Savage Stone Age used with Savage Stone Age Sticker Book (Horrible Histories) Maroo of the Winter Caves Walking With Cavemen DVD with Walking With Cavemen We loved these.

Chapter 2: Egyptians Lived on the Nile River (3000BC) Tales of Ancient Egypt, by Roger Lancelyn Green Life in Ancient Egypt Coloring Book (Dover History Coloring Book) Great for younger readers. HISTORY Through the Ages "Record of Time" Timeline. HISTORY Through the Ages “Record of Time” Timeline. A timeline helps children and adults make visual connections between events in history. It displays the big picture of history, helping them remember important dates, events, and people. They can see what events took place at the same time, often thousands of mile apart. We chose HISTORY Through the Ages “Record of Time” as our timeline. I love the binder, it’s a 12′ by 9″ hard-cover binder, beautifully illustrated with history events and a high gloss finish. It is often recommended that each child have their own timeline, but we find sharing one ‘Record of Time’ adequate for our needs. You can purchase timeline figures to go with the Record of Time, which may make keeping this timeline an easier and quicker task.

We use Free Educational Illustrations for Classroom, or search Google for the picture we want. Clip art, clip art colored in, and our own drawings. This timeline begins with large time periods between dates.
