About iPad in Schools. My name is Michael Kaufman. I am one of the four founding principals of a small innovation consulting firm called InnovationLabs. Since I was in 11th grade I have been interested in the power (and opportunity) ‘education and learning‘ has to transform people and improve the quality of life for everyone. Over the last 20+ years I’ve worked with individual schools, school districts and state departments of education as a consultant in improvement and change processes. I marvel at the number of conflicting forces that make real, substantive change in schools extremely challenging. At the same time I have a keen interest in how technology has been changing the social landscape and influencing every aspect of life. The world has changed drastically and schools haven’t kept up with those changes. Honestly, I didn’t have a plan or a really clear picture of what I wanted the site to be. I’m quite interested in your comments and feedback. Thanks!

Teaching and Learning: Using iPads in the Classroom. Updated 01/2014 If I had thirty iPads in my class, what would I do with them? How would I use them to help my students learn better and help me teach better? Perhaps a better question is what would I do with them that I could not do with other tools that are available and cheaper? Certainly iPads are cheaper than computers, desktop or laptop, and they are more mobile. Speaking of computers, they were supposed to be the transformation of teaching and learning as we know it. In some ways there has been a transformation, but the basics of teaching and learning have remained unchanged.

Perhaps, the iPad will be the tool that really does transform classroom practice. Kinesthetic Learners The iPad has a number of unique features that provide for interesting possibilities in teaching and learning. As a completely portable learning tool, the iPad camera allows documentation to be taken to a whole different level. Students can also attach videos, and voice recordings to their field notes. Teach With Your iPad (Wiki) Blooms and iPad Applications. I just got tweeted a nice diagram showing iPad applications against different levels of Bloom’s revised taxonomy.

Its a good and well considered diagram and I like it. Some applications there that I haven’t seen yet and I will have to look up. The only thing I would say is that the applications are just the medium in which the student demonstrates the level. They facilitate the cognitive action. – This is NOT a criticism, rather a statement from me and one I know that Kathy Schrock has definitely taken into account. I know a number of people who have questioned whether tools like animoto should be included because it can be so easy, but the reality is yes you can “throw” music and images at Animoto and get a good product. But the deliberate and considered student who designs, considers, structures and evaluate will make the excellent product. Tools like Pages and Touch Draw can be used across the taxonomic levels depending on the task and purpose.

Nice work and thanks for sharing. LiveBinder: iPads in Schools. iPads in Schools. IPAD Activities Examples. 10 extremely awesome iPad tips and tricks | 11 of 11. As you're most likely aware of, there are some default apps on the iPad that are there to stay. They can't be deleted, but they can all be moved into a group... that is, all but one: Newsstand.

Yes, this annoying app (to me, at least) is never used by many iPad users, yet Apple's made it such that you cannot delete it or even put it in a group. Fortunately, there's a bit of a workaround for placing it in a group, though doing as such will make Newsstand lose functionality until removing it from the group (which doesn't matter, because you want it gone in the first place). Here's what you do: From your home screen, long-press an app to get the apps to jiggle. Since I don't ever use any of the default apps (outside of the App Store, iTunes, and Game Center), I have an app group titled "Default Apps.
