The 10 most subversive women artists in history

She responded by turning her art into a weapon. In Gentileschi's repeated paintings of the biblical story of Judith slaying Holofernes, the Israelite hero is helped by her muscular servant. As one woman holds down Holofernes on his bed, the other saws through his neck with a sword. Blood spurts everywhere in a sensational image of women taking revenge on patriarchy. Hannah Wilke In her SOS Starification Object Series (1974-82), Wilke was photographed with blobs of chewing gum stuck on to her flesh. Adrian Piper In her Catalysis performances (1970), Piper turned herself into a human provocation in public places such as the New York subway. Georgia O'Keeffe In the early 20th century, Georgia O'Keeffe posed nude for her lover, the modernist photographer and art impressario Alfred Stieglitz, and painted abstractions that have an explicitly vaginal beauty. Mira Schendel conference. Mira Schendel (1919–1988) was one of Brazil’s most important yet complex and enigmatic artists.

Mira Schendel conference

While her most well-known works are delicate monotypes, her work encompassed painting, drawing, collage, sculptural objects, notebooks and installations. This conference addresses the complex relationship of Schendel’s thought to her visual production, focusing on the connections between her painterly practice, her graphic and sculptural works and her dialogues with a diverse range of philosophers, thinkers, artists and critics. It explores her engagement with themes of being/existence, faith, time and the philosophy of language. The individual papers examine the impact of Schendel’s early studies in philosophy in Italy and how her ongoing engagement with Continental and Eastern thought impacted on her development of a radical art practice.

And when I mean best content, I'm not talking only about the articles, collections and portfolios that we bring to you, but also about the tutorials. Other day while talking to Fábio, I found that we really needed to try some more tangible tutorials and by tangible I mean tutorials not so related to softwares. We did a lot of photoshop, illustrator, Fireworks and other softwares tutorials, but when it comes to illustration tutorials, we can't just get locked in a software like illustrator or Corel Draw, we got to expand to other areas. So from now on I will start a new series of tutorials at Abduzeedo and I hope you support us. So, what are we going to learn today? Today we're going to learn a pretty simple Street Art technique (I'm not a street artist, before someone ask), some people call this technique Wheatpaste, Big Sticker, Cutout or just Street Art Poster.
