Published on March 10, 2011. Our primal gesture considered enhancing the buildings spatial value by extending the existing volumes. While making the most of the space within given boundaries, building heights were strategically maintained and space between houses converted to an access platform to the museum. We aimed at a sensible integration to the existing urban logic which would restore the memory of an old industrial site. “I like to work with big formats, letting gestures loose loose, in a sort of dance. It’s an experiment of huge tension and concentration in which sometimes you can get completely evaded.” Imrey Culbert, Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa - Sanaa, Mosbach Paysagistes — Musée Louvre-LENS. © Hufton + Crow .
Published on March 11, 2013. In keeping with a desire to maintain the openness of the site and to reduce the ascendancy of this large project, the building was broken down into several spaces. Through their size and layout, which follow the gradual changes in terrain elevation, the buildings achieve balance with the scale of the site and the shape of the paths, landscape features evoking its mining history.
In order to visually and physically open up the site, the main glassed area features a hollow in the core of the building. This delicate glass box serves as an entry hall to the museum and is a genuine public space for the city of Lens. Marco Cerri, Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa - Sanaa — Museo Diocesano Competition. The proposed extension seeks to reengage the area with its surroundings, restoring harmony to the disrupted urban framework. Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa - Sanaa — The Circle at Zurich Airport.

C.F. Møller Infuses New life in One of Denmark’s oldest school. The listed Sølvgade School built in 1847, close to King Christian IV's famous historic naval barracks, Nyboder, in Copenhagen, has for many years been lacking space and modern facilities. C. F. Moller has carefully renovated the school and done an extension which in its form and colors is true to the surroundings, but also adds a modernistic twist to the school.
