iRevolution | From innovation to Revolution

http://irevolution.net/ I recently had the distinct honor of being on the opening plenary of the 2012 Skoll World Forum in Oxford. The panel, “Innovation in Times of Flux: Opportunities on the Heels of Crisis” was moderated by Judith Rodin, CEO of the Rockefeller Foundation. I’ve spent the past six years creating linkages between the humanitarian space and technology community, so the conversations we began during the panel prompted me to think more deeply about innovation in the humanitarian industry. Clearly, humanitarian crises have catalyzed a number of important innovations in recent years. At the same time, however, these crises extend the cracks that ultimately reveal the inadequacies of existing organiza-tions, particularly those resistant to change; and “any organization that is not changing is a battle-field monument” (While 1992). These cracks, or gaps, are increasingly filled by disaster-affected communities themselves thanks in part to the rapid commercialization of communication technology.

In recent months I have taken an interest in Android devices and as a result have purchased an Android phone strictly for development purposes and for testing apps. Considering that over 3.7 million Android devices were activated over the Xmas weekend, Android is clearly the mobile operating system with the greatest market share. With this in mind I thought I would share my top apps for Android. SportsTracker Pro This app has got to be the best tracking app I have ever come across. It not only allows the user to track their speed, distance, time, altitude etc via the GPS, but with additional hardware you can track your heart and breathing rates as well as your skin temperature.

Larry Jordan gave a couple of talks at the recent BVE Expo in London. In one, he summed up the not too successful Final Cut Pro X launch quite well. We've also included some other great speakers from the show too who talk about tapeless production, 3D, SANs, media in the cloud and much much more...

The Creativity Crisis - The Daily Beast

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2010/07/10/the-creativity-crisis.html The potential consequences are sweeping. The necessity of human ingenuity is undisputed. A recent IBM poll of 1,500 CEOs identified creativity as the No. 1 “leadership competency” of the future. Yet it’s not just about sustaining our nation’s economic growth. All around us are matters of national and international importance that are crying out for creative solutions, from saving the Gulf of Mexico to bringing peace to Afghanistan to delivering health care. Such solutions emerge from a healthy marketplace of ideas, sustained by a populace constantly contributing original ideas and receptive to the ideas of others.

The Principal of Change

http://georgecouros.ca/blog/ Why are our schools not the place where we start to build our preferred future? Why are they meant to fit in the model of what exists, or sometimes, what existed? If our dreams lie in our children, do we dream of them working in a place for 30 years where no one cares about anything other than the bottom line?
