Scenic Byways of the United States There are wonderful drives all across America including National Scenic Byways, Back Country Byways, and State Scenic Byways. A National Scenic Byway is recognized by the United States Department of Transportation for one of the six "intrinsic qualities": archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and/or scenic. The most scenic byways are designated All-American Roads, which must meet two out of the six intrinsic qualities. Currently, there are 120 National Scenic Byways and 31 All-American Roads. In addition to these there are hundreds more designated by individual states, as well as scenic drives and back-country byways designated by the Bureau of Land Management.

Where Is This Picture Taken? Discover The World With These 2 Addictive & Challenging Travel Games I love travelling, and if I can get my hands on a good road trip, you won’t hear me asking for anything else. Alas, I live in a tiny country, and I also have a job which does not play well with the Internet-free wilderness or the immense amount of money such a trip would cost, so I usually have no choice but to tame my travel hunger by looking at pictures and reading about far-away places. Another great way to satisfy your itchy feet are travel games. MakeUseOf is not new to the travel-game concept, and two years ago Saikat told you about 7 awesome travel quizzes to improve your travel IQ.

NOAA Photo Library - Treasures of the Library The "Treasures of the Library" album and collection has been developed to share images from rare and unusual books that reside within the NOAA Central Library. These books and images have been waiting like a buried treasure to be discovered and put on display for the world to see. Within the 1,000,000 or so documents that reside in the NOAA Central Library are tens of thousands of jewels produced prior to the early Twentieth Century. The oldest of these is a translation of a treatise written by Hippocrates on the effect of climate on health printed in Latin in 1485. Many other early tomes concerned with observations of the natural world, scientific instruments, and scientific concepts have survived the ravages of the centuries and now reside within the Special Collections of the NOAA Central Library.

Flickr Flickr (pronounced "flicker") is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo in 2005. In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, and effectively an online community, the service is widely used by photo researchers and by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media.[3] History[edit] The British Library Puts 1,000,000 Images into the Public Domain, Making Them Free to Reuse & Remix Earlier this week, Oxford's Bodleian Library announced that it had digitized a 550 year old copy of the Gutenberg Bible along with a number of other ancient bibles, some of them quite beautiful. Not to be outdone, the British Library came out with its own announcement on Thursday: We have released over a million images onto Flickr Commons for anyone to use, remix and repurpose. These images were taken from the pages of 17th, 18th and 19th century books digitised by Microsoft who then generously gifted the scanned images to us, allowing us to release them back into the Public Domain. The images themselves cover a startling mix of subjects: There are maps, geological diagrams, beautiful illustrations, comical satire, illuminated and decorative letters, colourful illustrations, landscapes, wall-paintings and so much more that even we are not aware of.
