Cette vidéo m'a donné des frissons. Et aujourd'hui, vous devriez absolument la voir. Victor Habchy est un jeune photographe parisien, qui se décrit lui-même comme un grand passionné de voyages et d'images. Sur son site, on peut voir ses clichés, absolument époustouflants, qui semblent dégager quelque chose d'irréel et de magique... Pourtant, le photographe se veut désormais aussi cinéaste, puisqu'il vient de réaliser son tout premier court-métrage : "Démarrer—Arrêter". Eh bien, il faut croire que l'expérience a été plutôt concluante... Women are especially underrepresented in most science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors (or STEM, as these fields are commonly called). Gender Segregation in College Majors and the Workplace Gender differences in the choice of college major are quite dramatic. Percentage of Bachelor's degrees conferred to women, by major (1970-2012) One oft-cited problem with Computer Science is its glaring gender disparity: In a given Computer Science class, men will outnumber women as much as 8 to 2 (20% women). This stands in stark contrast to most other college majors, which have women outnumbering men 3 to 2 on average (60% women). This observation made me wonder: Are other STEM majors suffering the same gender disparity? To get at that question, I checked into the NCES 2013 Digest of Education Statistics and looked at the gender breakdown from 1970-2012 for every major they report on. Providing girls with role models for computer science careers / Transitions and vocational pathways / Videos Tim Harford: In the digital technologies programme, we were looking to make connections with industry on areas that were relevant to what we were teaching. We approached a range of companies and we told them what we were looking for. We told them which subjects we studied and what the girls were looking for. The girls have absolutely loved it. So a problem that we identified early on was that the girls don’t really understand where our subject heads in the future. Most of the companies have asked if we would prefer to have female engineers and developers and managers speak, which we’ve loved. We visit these companies and they are really modern work spaces, they’re very spacious, very well lit. We’ve worked really hard to get a really wide range of these in our area and we’re seeing how effective they are.
