Essä: Nu skrivs historien om Europas historier - Tvärsnitt Om man tittar i en historisk kartbok eller i ett uppslagsverk och begrundar Polens utsträckning vid olika tider så förstår man att det inte är så enkelt med den nationella historien. Det är väldigt små delar av det som har varit Polen vid olika tider, som är gemensamt för alla tider. Exemplet Sverige är på det sättet lättare, för området från Småland till Jämtland har alltid varit ett svenskt kärnområde, medan kolonisering och stormaktsambition tidvis expanderat området oerhört. Tyskland (de tyska staterna), Österrike (Österrike-Ungern), Belgien och för övrigt nästan varje europeisk stat uppvisar alla olika varianter av utvidgning, sammandragning och förflyttning. Sådana förändringar har inte skett i ett tomrum. Det är på grannarnas bekostnad man utvidgat och det är grannarna som har erhållit förlorade landområden. Sacred Text Archive How the Nazis Ruined the Swastika | floor8 Once a sign of peace and good fortune, the swastika has since become synonymous with malice and unforeseen cruelty. Most people associate the symbol with the Third Reich and Hitler's Nazi regime, and for this reason Germany has outlawed the display of it. What most people don't know is the history of the powerful symbol and its evolution. The symbol has roots that run deep through ancient religions, primarily those native to India. In the religion it was considered a icon that was thought to represent the footprints of Buddha. In other Indian religions such as Hinduism and Jainism, the traditional symbol as we know it today with its "arms" in a clockwise position is opposed by a sauvistika, The word svastika derives from the Sanskrit translation for "conducive to well-being." Steven Heller, a graphic designer, describes the emblem interestingly by saying, Navajo Indians were known to weave the symbol into quilts and it can even be seen in many archaic churches throughout Europe.

Consider them further reading or me backing up my opinions] It seems we’re entering another of those stupid seasons humans impose on themselves at fairly regular intervals. My background is archaeology, so also history and anthropology. It leads me to look at big historical patterns. So zooming out, we humans have a habit of going into phases of mass destruction, generally self imposed to some extent or another. But a defining feature of humans is their resilience. But for the people living through it, as with the World Wars, Soviet Famines, Holocaust, it must have felt inconceivable that humans could rise up from it. At a local level in time people think things are fine, then things rapidly spiral out of control until they become unstoppable, and we wreak massive destruction on ourselves. My point is that this is a cycle. 1. 2. 3. So I feel it’s all inevitable.
