Discover the world's most endangered species

Wildscreen's Arkive project was launched in 2003 and grew to become the world's biggest encyclopaedia of life on Earth. With the help of over 7,000 of the world’s best wildlife filmmakers and photographers, conservationists and scientists, Arkive.org featured multi-media fact-files for more than 16,000 endangered species. Freely accessible to everyone, over half a million people every month, from over 200 countries, used Arkive to learn and discover the wonders of the natural world. Since 2013 Wildscreen was unable to raise sufficient funds from trusts, foundations, corporates and individual donors to support the year-round costs of keeping Arkive online. Therefore, the charity had been using its reserves to keep the project online and was unable to fund any dedicated staff to maintain Arkive, let alone future-proof it, for over half a decade. Despite appeals for support, just 85 of our 5.6 million users in 2018 made a donation.

South Africa: Don't strip protections for elephants! Antony Mcgowan, United Kingdom Nov 21, 15:32 Morgaine Wakelin, New Zealand Nov 21, 15:26 laurie holmes, United Kingdom Tina King, NC Carbon Sequestration NGSS Investigation 1 The Lesson Level Learning Goals for Investigation 1 are: Ask and answer questions to identify and clarify evidence that various activities can increase the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and Analyze and interpret data to make a claim about a tree’s ability to store carbon. Students will build towards this goal by engaging with different phenomena. First, students will figure out that plants absorb carbon dioxide from their environment by using an indicator tool to observe changes in carbon dioxide levels in a controlled environment. Next, they will be introduced to a tool that they will then apply to collect quantitative data from a subset of local trees to identify characteristics that affect a tree’s ability to store carbon. Student should be familiar with the following concepts before starting this lesson: The difference between climate and weather (3-ESS2-2) Respiration Photosynthesis

Virtual Labs The links on this page are all VIRTUAL LABS offered by the Glencoe textbook company. These labs give the students the adventure of laboratory experimentation without costly supplies, worrisome environmental and safety issues, or time-consuming clean up. They are from all different areas of science: Biology, Physics, Genetics, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Chemistry. Please feel free to try these at home! Students will be directed to specific labs in class but there are over 100 labs offered here! To return to the home page, please click here: Must Watch Documentaries About The U.S. Real Scientific Evidence of Controlled Implosion "The preconceived notion of NIST is that there's no evidence for explosives, as in there is no point in looking. That is the most unscientific thing which you can possibly think of. Not to look because you don't expect to find evidence and in fact the evidence is overwhelming.

Cecil the lion's killer joins long list of big game hunters skewered on social media In the jungle, the mighty jungle, poor Cecil the lion no longer sleeps tonight. After news broke that the beloved big cat was killed by a dentist from Minnesota, the hunter, Walter Palmer, quickly became “the most hated man in America who never advertised Jell-O pudding on television”, according to Jimmy Kimmel. Palmer is reportedly receiving death threats and a deluge of horrible Yelp reviews, and it probably goes without saying that his patients are likely hunting themselves – for a new dentist.

Carbon dioxide levels race past troubling milestone Every year, the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) rises during winter and then falls slightly during the Northern Hemisphere’s growing season, as plants take up the greenhouse gas during photosynthesis. But this year, for the first time since before the Ice Age, CO2 will not fall below 400 ppm. “It’s unlikely we’ll ever see CO2 below 400 ppm during our lifetime and probably much longer,” says Pieter Tans, lead scientist of NOAA's Global Greenhouse Gas Reference Network. Measurements taken at NOAA’s atmospheric observatories on Mauna Loa and at the South Pole both indicate that CO2 has passed 400 ppm for good.

The Secret To Chimp Strength February's brutal chimpanzee attack, during which a pet chimp inflicted devastating injuries on a Connecticut woman, was a stark reminder that chimps are much stronger than humans—as much as four-times stronger, some researchers believe. But what is it that makes our closest primate cousins so much stronger than we are? One possible explanation is that great apes simply have more powerful muscles. Indeed, biologists have uncovered differences in muscle architecture between chimpanzees and humans. But evolutionary biologist Alan Walker, a professor at Penn State University, thinks muscles may only be part of the story.

Authentic video in the classroom: Ireland II My second example of utilising authentic video in the EFL classroom is based on the same 50-minute travel video as my first. Of course, one can apply this to any video, but this time I will stick with Ireland. How I do it now will, however, differ from my last post because now I’ll concentrate on the language and vocabulary awareness in detail (but I wouldn’t use both methods on the same video in the same class, though). Photosynthesis Trees Look at this forest of Photosynthesis Trees my 5th years made! They are made with A4 card and the children drew pictures of the process of photosynthesis and wrote definitions on them. It's a fun way of helping them revise for their Science exam. Hope you like them! Here you have a template to make the tree which you might want to enlarge for A4 size.

600 lions sont tués (légalement) chaque année par des Américains The Internet is in an uproar this week over the recent killing of a well-known lion in Zimbabwe. Walter J. Palmer, a Minnesota dentist, allegedly baited Cecile the lion out of a national park by dragging a dead animal behind a car at night. Palmer shot it with a crossbow. The wounded lion escaped and wasn't found by Palmer and his fellow hunters until 40 hours later, when they killed it with a rifle. This would all be perfectly legal had the lion not been a resident of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, a protected area.
