Hi-Fructose Magazine In his portrait series, the Austrian artist Aldo Tolino deconstructs, folds, reassembles and weaves printed photographs in order to create origami-like sculptural pieces. Tolino then re-photographs the works, converting the pieces back into two-dimensional objects. The disturbing quality of the images may not just be due to the fact that the folded faces appear distorted, disproportional and almost entirely stripped of identity. In their conversion back to a photographic object, these pieces also suggest a cycle of infinite reprocessing and deformation, wherein the portrait will only continue to move further away from the original “true” image. This perhaps serves to remind us of the precarious nature of photography itself; the lack of control we have over photographic images, the instability of their meaning and function, which can be both liberating and unsettling. Getting Started With Generative Art Generative art as defined by Philip Galanter is, “Any art practice where the artist creates a process, such as a set of natural language rules, a computer program, a machine, or other mechanism, which is then set to motion with some degree of autonomy contributing to or resulting in a complete work of art.” I became a huge fan of generative art after I went to a presentation by Joshua Davis at Adobe Max. His presentation was on his new experimental work, titled “space”. It was a real treat to see how Joshua pushes himself and his work to the next level. He is by far a master in this area. After the workshop, I was really inspired to find as many resources as I could on creating generative art. I personally like the idea of generating art inside of Flash with some ActionScript. Mobile devices, tablets, the proliferation of connectivity and the open source democratization are some of the reasons for this new paradigm. We are used to think that designers often work mainly with the right side of the brain and programmers work exactly with the opposite hemisphere (check out the right brain / left brain inventory ). On the one hand its easier for programmers to learn the tools of design, while its harder for designers to learn programming. Solar, with lyrics. from flight404 While designers present miss structured thinking in general, programmers don’t show many signs of having an extensive visual culture, but we start to find places where these two qualities overlap seamlessly. GuruBlog Blender 2.80 beta has been released! yea! party! ok - for real now - blender 2.80 is the next big release of blender, 3 years in the making and packed with new features, a new render engine, support for 2D animations, a new ui, ... lots of new stuff to learn and explore So I started a new series of "blender experiments" this time featuring blender 2.80 I will explore and test various new features and create 10s animations for each one and blog my findings, what I like or don't like about it, how easy it was to use and so on. If you have any suggestions or want me to try things add a comment below The first new feature I want to explore, is the new rendering engine eevee which replaced the blender internal engine - and I'm obviously going to explore the new UI - would be hard to create eevee animations without using the new UI :-) I really like particle systems and used them a lot sooooo its a pretty obvius choice for me to use as my first blender experiment using eevee.
