BooHoo and Ditch the Label Combat Social Media Fakery – Anti-Social Media If you Google ‘Instagram’ you’re most likely to be met with a series of news stories around mental health and the negative effect the photo sharing platform has on young people’s self esteem. I was going to post some links here, but there are far too many to choose from. Although Instagram is aware of the damaging effect it can have on young people’s mental health and has addressed the issue when it comes to more serious cases of depression, it doesn’t change the negative impact it can have on the every day user. Terms like FOMO have origniated from the platform and highlight the fear of missing out that users experience when they see other users tagged in event posts.

Youth Law Australia Deciding to have sex with someone is a big decision. If you think that you are ready to have sex, it is important that you know what the law says about how old you have to be to be able to legally agree to have sex. Before you have sex, it’s a good idea to talk to a health professional or a trusted adult about how to practice safe sex and to make sure you are fully aware of the risks of practising unsafe sex. Why Social Media Isn't Social  The rise of Internet-based innovations promised to connect us together, to unite us in an egalitarian community of billions of individuals, sharing our lives through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, and more. But social media’s effects are anything but social, they’re a crutch — a crutch on which we lean instead of learning how to interact and communicate with others effectively. I believe that social media does two unfortunate things: It allows individuals to put on masks and hold up shields. The Social Media Mask Have you ever noticed that the lives’ of your ostensibly boring friends always seem way more interesting on social media sites? That’s because these sites and apps allow us to choose an impressive filter for our lives, making boring exceptional and mediocre exciting.

The Origin of the Zodiac. The Origin of the Zodiac: (Astrology) The zodiac (Greek: ζoδιακός, zōdiakos) is the term used to describe the circle of twelve 30 divisions of celestial longitude that are centred upon the ecliptic - the path of the sun. The term zodiac derives from Latin zōdiacus, which in its turn comes from the Greek ζoδιακoς κύκλος (zōdiakos kuklos), meaning "circle of animals". From the earliest of times, the zodiac has been universally used to predict or reflect characteristics of personality, whether from the Chinese, Mesopotamian, Indus Valley, Egyptian or any other culture, echoing the ancient philosophy 'As above - so below'... what we today call astrology. Astrology, in its broadest sense, is the search for purpose in the heavens. We know from ancient records that the Greeks inherited their knowledge of the heavens primarily from the Mesopotamians, who in turn inherited their knowledge from the Sumerians.

Teacher Resources The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues has developed a series of resources for teachers and other education stakeholders to use in schools and other educational settings. These resources range from bespoke programmes for both Primary and Secondary age pupils, to full Programmes of Study, which can be used to teach character as a discrete subject, both at Primary and Secondary level. The resources are produced in collaboration with classroom teachers and other education stakeholders, with many of the materials having been used successfully in classrooms already.

New means of communication (séries générales LV2) Good news for worried parents: all those hours their teenagers spend socializing on the Internet are not a bad thing, according to a new study by the MacArthur Foundation. “It may look as though kids are wasting a lot of time hanging out with new media, whether it’s on MySpace or sending instant messages,” said Mizuko Ito, lead researcher on the study, “Living and Learning With New Media.” “But their participation is giving them the technological skills and literacy they need to succeed in the contemporary world. They’re learning how to get along with others, how to manage a public identity, how to create a home page.”
