Portail de la statistique publique Spying Out the Land One of the thoughts that has been bouncing around my mind over the past few weeks is this: So much of what I do in life, so many of the decisions I make, are driven primarily by considerations of my own comfort. I do what I do because it is more comfortable than the alternative; I choose to go this way instead of that way because the opposite looks like it may just bring too much discomfort. I’m kind of a coward, I guess, and kind of consumed with keeping life safe and easy. I think it’s more than coincidence that as I’ve been considering my own comfort, I’ve kept coming across the story of the twelve Israelite spies who were sent to scout out the Promised Land (Numbers 13). For forty days these men did just what Moses asked. Only two of the twelve, Joshua and Caleb, took a dissenting view and said “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. I can identify with this kind of fear. Where I’ve seen it most clearly, I think, is with my children.

LABORSTA Internet (E) Economic Indicators: Producer Price Index (PPI) By Ryan BarnesBackgroundThe Producer Price Index (PPI) is a weighted index of prices measured at the wholesale, or producer level. A monthly release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the PPI shows trends within the wholesale markets (the PPI was once called the Wholesale Price Index), manufacturing industries and commodities markets. All of the physical goods-producing industries that make up the economy are included, but imports are not. The PPI release has three headline index figures, one each for crude, intermediate and finished goods on the national level: PPI Commodity Index (crude): This shows the average price change from the previous month for commodities such as energy, coal, crude oil and the steel scrap. The PPI looks to capture only the prices that are being paid during the survey month itself. The PPI does not represent prices at the consumer level - this is left to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is released a few trading days after the PPI. Strengths:
