Lesson Plan: A Picture-Based Activity to Enlarge Students’ Vocabulary on Trav...
I’m really happy to introduce a guest writer to you. Maria Jose Díaz is a friend and fellow teacher from EOI Avilés and, in this blog post, she will be sharing with us an excellent communicative activity for C1 students based on pictures. María Jose also runs a blog Ingles en Aviles, which is really worth a visit. Once again I have to cover the topic of travelling with my C1 students. After racking my brains for a while I came up with this idea to help students talk about travelling from a different point of view. Aim: activating new vocabulary through class discussion and providing students with new ideas to talk about travelling. Level: C1 Materials: pictures of prehistoric people, explorers, missionaries, pilgrims, refugees and holidaymakers. Instructions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

What the Swedes Know About Breakfast That Americans Don't | Extra Crispy
American breakfasts are nothing if not brazen. You can’t throw an Egg McMuffin without hitting a nearby billboard heralding the newest gut-busting breakfast bandito, Cronut, or Grand Slam. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you can very likely ask for an all-American breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice and get it (though perhaps in a much smaller serving). Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but sometimes you yearn for an alternative—perhaps something a little quieter, a little less showy. On an extended trip to Sweden last year, I got to experience many wonders of the Scandinavian breakfast table which is—quite literally—a movable feast of breads, fruits, vegetables, and sour milk. After talking to a fair number of Swedes and spending an ungodly amount of time lost in the aisles of local grocery store Hemköp, trying to figure out why everything from mayonnaise to caviar was sold in tubes, I gained some insights into Scandi dining.
SEALL – Supporting EAL Learners
Most classrooms are decorated with students’ work, info graphs and posters. Unfortunately they are static and are rarely used for learning. A way to make your displays more interactive is by making sure to leave space for translations for students’ own languages The photo below is a great example of a multilingual display from my classroom. Every year I ask my students to come up with their own set of rules for the classroom. as a teacher I then know that they clearly understood the rules.the students love to see their language represented in the classroom.a display like this can be interactive for years as each year new students with different home languages join the school.it requires minimal effort, it doesn’t have to happen within a lesson and students can come up with their own ideas for displays that would support their learning ) etc……. Thanks for Supporting EAL Learners
