WHAT *SHOULD* WE BE WORRIED ABOUT? Clematis 2013 by Katinka MatsonClick to Expand | www.katinkamatson.com "The most stimulating English-language reading to be had from anywhere in the world." —The Canberra Times "A profound question a treasure trove of ideas...each one is a beautiful and instructive reflection, which encourages thinking and reading Kerouac's Breakthrough The following is excerpted from The Voice Is All: The Lonely Victory of Jack Kerouac, published by Viking, 2012. On October 7, 1951, after a gloomy Sunday when he seemed to be making no progress on the chapters about Neal Cassady he was adding to On the Road, Jack went to Birdland to hear the alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, who recently had come into his own as a leading innovator of cool jazz. In fact, he compared Konitz's extended phrases to the sentences he was writing lately, sentences whose direction seemed mysterious until the "solution" was suddenly unveiled in a way that shed light backward on everything that had preceded it. Curiosity: It Helps Us Learn, But Why? : NPR Ed The Limbic Reward System lights up when curiosity is piqued. LA Johnson/NPR hide caption itoggle caption LA Johnson/NPR The Limbic Reward System lights up when curiosity is piqued. documentary A documentary about the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other "establishment" notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world's people. “If we are genuinely concerned about the environment and the fellow human beings, and want to end territorial disputes, war, crime, poverty, hunger, and the other problems that confront us today, the intelligent use of science and technology are the tools with which to achieve a new direction; one that will serve all people, and not just a select few.” — Jacque Fresco Paradise or Oblivion, by...

Leah Reich - Being an empathetic company ”Empathy has morphed into a sort of catch-all for our collective desire to give a shit” When one of Leah’s bosses made her cry she was taught that under no circumstances was she allowed to cry at work and that the office was no place for emotions. It’s out of this premise that she talks about the importance of empathy at work in order to be able to look at things from different perspectives. This gets even more relevant when we’re nowadays expected to bring our whole selves to the office. Welcome to the Emotion Arcade Confession: I am not a gamer. The sum total of my gaming experience is an intense, elementary school obsession with Oregon Trail. You won’t find Candy Crush on my phone, and my thumbs fumble around the simplest game controllers. But I would love for this to change. Why?

10 People Share The Mistakes That Cost Them A Job Offer When it comes to fear-inducing situations, job interviews are right up there with public speaking and first dates. In fact, a recent survey of 1,000 job seekers found that 92% of people feel interview anxiety, citing doubt over their qualifications, whether they’d be able to answer questions correctly—and even if they’d make it to the meeting on time. Frankly, this stat should come as no surprise. After all, you’re trying to build rapport with strangers in an unfamiliar place, you’re being put on the spot—and there’s a lot at stake from this one encounter. But in order to really rock that interview, you’ve got to push the fear aside and boost your confidence.

The Hustler's MBA I've been saying that college is obsolete for a very long time. I dropped out in 2000, because even back then I could see that it was a really poor value proposition. I didn't predict this because I'm some crazy genius, but because I'm willing to discard emotional attachment and stare plainly at the facts. School is outrageously expensive, leaving graduates with a debt (or net expenditure) of tens of thousands of dollars-- sometimes even one or two hundred thousand. There are some things that are worth that amount of money, but for many people school isn't one of them.
