Building upwards reconsidered for permitted development rights 18 October 2018 The government is to look again at permitted development rights to allow property owners to extend buildings upwards to create new homes and increase housing density. The proposals were announced by Housing Secretary James Brokenshire at the Conservative Party Conference and swiftly confirmed in a separate statement on new housing measures issued by the MHCLG, which said the measures could apply to existing blocks of flats, shops and offices. Brokenshire said his proposals would ‘permit people to build up on existing buildings rather than to build out to use more precious land’. The proposal is not a new idea. That plan subsequently turned into a joint consultation by the government and the Mayor of London for proposals that would apply only to the capital. Instead, the revised National Planning Policy Framework was given new planning guidance to support ‘opportunities to use the airspace above existing residential and commercial premises for new homes’. ISO9001: The seven underpinning quality management principles Mark Hammar | February 4, 2014 Have you ever wondered why the ISO 9001 standard has some of the requirements that it does? Or have you wondered why a requirement is worded the way it is? By understanding the main principles behind the writing of the standard you can not only understand the requirements better, but you can also work on a more successful implementation of the requirements into your Quality Management System. There are seven Quality Management Principles upon which the ISO9001 requirements for Quality Management Systems are based. QMP1 – Customer Focus Since the whole goal of a company is to provide products or services to customers, it makes sense that there is a focus on customers as a main element. QMP3 – Engagement of People QMP4 – The Process Approach QMP5 – Improvement
Visualizing Graphs in 3D with WebGL – neo4j I was already aware of and impressed by three.js, especially the 3d and WebGL capabilities. I had seen and done some graph visualization using it years ago, but 3d-force-graph packages three.js nicely with a Graph API and adds useful options to quickly get good looking results. If you want to try the different approaches directly, I put them into a GitHub Repository with live examples using the RawGit Service to serve HTML pages and assets directly from the repository. Datasets I started by using the Game of Thrones interaction graph, that my colleague Will Lyon wrote about here and which you can create yourself by running :play got in your Neo4j Browser. Besides the basic graph of characters, it also has interaction “weights” on the relationships and the guide adds some additonal metrics like a pageRank property that we want to use in the visualization. But let’s get started. Accessing the Data Basic Loading Load relationship list We need one array with links from a source id to a target id.
