On the Spine - Situational Awareness

This really makes me anxious! I find the FatBoss video really overwhelming. I also watched an IcyVeins video on this. I think the hardest thing for me is to sort out the adds--which are extremely dangerous and which are not so bad. Connectivism. Connectivism is a hypothesis of learning which emphasizes the role of social and cultural context.

Connectivism

Connectivism is often associated with and proposes a perspective similar to Vygotsky's 'zone of proximal development' (ZPD), an idea later transposed into Engeström's (2001) Activity theory.[1] The relationship between work experience, learning, and knowledge, as expressed in the concept of ‘connectivity, is central to connectivism, motivating the theory's name.[2] It is somewhat similar to Bandura's Social Learning Theory that proposes that people learn through contact.

The phrase "a learning theory for the digital age"[3] indicates the emphasis that connectivism gives to technology's effect on how people live, communicate and learn. Nodes and links[edit] The central aspect of connectivism is the metaphor of a network with nodes and connections.[4] In this metaphor, a node is anything that can be connected to another node such as an organization, information, data, feelings, and images.

Pwn

The term implies domination or humiliation of a rival,[4] used primarily in the Internet-based video game culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated (e.g., "You just got pwned! ").[5] Popularity of the term among teenagers rose in the mid-2000s, with the spread from the Internet written form to use in spoken language.[6] Etymology The word pwn most likely came about as a common typo of the word own because the "p" and "o" keys are adjacent on a standard English keyboard.[6][7] Pronunciations Because pwn is primarily used in written form, it has no single generally accepted pronunciation: renditions include /ˈoʊn/ OHN, /ˈpwoʊn/ PWOHN, /ˈpoʊn/ POHN, /pəʔˈoʊn/ pə'-OHN, /ˈpɔːn/ PAWN, /piːˈoʊn/ pee-OHN, and /ˈpwiːn/ PWEEN.

Where speakers vocalize the p, pronunciations include pwen, "pwin", pawn, "pone", pun[9] and pwone.[10] See also References. Leet. One way to write the word "Wikipedia" in Leet Leet (or "1337"), also known as eleet or leetspeak, is an alternative alphabet for the English language that is used primarily on the Internet.

Leet

It uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters. For example, leet spellings of the word leet include 1337 and l33t; eleet may be spelled 31337 or 3l33t. History Leet symbols, especially the number 1337, are Internet memes that have spilled over into popular culture. Orthography. Games Based Learning through Text Adventures. This week in the Games Based Learning MOOC, we’ve been focusing on two tools for GBL: AR/ARGs and Interactive Fiction/Text Adventures.

Games Based Learning through Text Adventures

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I’m planning to integrate IF into my Fall FYC class. Students will both experience the course as a piece of IF and, at the end of the term, create their own IF. The Class as a Text Adventure In lieu of a syllabus, I’ll provide students with a piece of IF that they will have to “play” in order to navigate the course: all of the course resources will be located within the “game” and students will need to solve “puzzles” and complete levels in order to locate them. As with any text adventure, the students will be able to make choices in terms of whether or not they solve specific puzzles or utilize specific resources. There are several tools available for creating text adventures, including Inform 7, Twine, and Inklewriter. Students as Text Adventure Designers Inform 7′s Introduction to Interactive Fiction.
