Why Use a Central Data Center?

A measure for data center energy efficiency is the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), a ratio of power dedicated to computer equipment versus cooling. A higher number is less efficient, a lower number is more efficient. For example, a data center with a PUE of 3 means that for every $1 in power dedicated to computing, it takes $2 to cool the computers.
