In an amazing study of masterful craftsmanship and delicacy, Hillary Fayle, a student of embroidery, has created a series of leaves that have been cut and embroidered with exquisite and delicate decorative patterns.
She starts by coating each leaf in a non-toxic preservative that stiffens them up and protects them. Then, she cuts them into various forms and embroiders them or simply embroiders onto their uncut surfaces. “I generally try to use renewable, sustainable and environmentally friendly materials for my art, so this was an obvious choice,” explains the artist. Besides her astounding leaf embroidery, she also creates amazing leaf cutting designs, a few of which you can see here as well. Her website is definitely worth checking out! A l'occasion du DMY Berlin 2010 le collectif à réalisé une installation composée de rubans adhésifs entre les échafaudages de l'exposition, rappelant l'architecture biomorphe et les utopies urbaines des dernières décennies. De plus leurs installations peuvent être escaladées. Leurs installations me rappellent les toiles d'araignées, ou des labyrinthes géants.
Je trouve cela assez poétique et merveilleux, comme sortie d'un rêve. Mais néanmoins effrayant, on pourrait avoir l'impression d'être pris au piège, enfermé dans un gigantesque cocon. I channeled my inner Dr. Russ and did a paper cut map of the city of Amsterdam. We recently had the bathrooms redone in our house. I was looking through Etsy for some art for the downstairs one and came across these amazing paper cut maps by Lekker Haas Paper. They look so complicated, but I figured Iron Craft is about challenging myself, so why not give it a go. I decided to do a map of Amsterdam, because the other artwork I have planned for that room is a photo I took of Amsterdam canal houses.
After a lot of time on Google images I found this map which had a great graphic quality to start with. Next, I had to figure out what I was going to cut out. Then I scanned the map with all my markings into my computer. Then it was just down to the cutting. Here you can see the back of the cut out with a little of the map left and plain white front. The Canadian has been a full-time paper sculpture artist since the mid-1980's. With such a variety of animals in his collection, he's essentially created his own paper zoo. Many of the animal paper sculptures belong in Nicholls' most extensive collection, which includes over 75 pieces for Follett Library Resources in McHenry Illinois. The series began in the mid-1990's and continues to this day. "Initially a rigid form is constructed which establishes the contours of the subject and provides a stable base upon which the detail pieces are attached," Nicholls' says, as he explains his process. Christine est une artiste canadienne qui travaille dans l’illustration, la découpe et le collage de papier. Ses conceptions sont complexes et très détaillées grâce à une exploration sans limite du papier blanc mat.
