In the summer of 2006, musician and web designer Matthew McVickar sent a camera in the mail from Massachusetts to Hawaii, with instructions to postal employees to take pictures with the camera at each stop on its journey. The camera arrived with seven photos documenting its trip through the mail system . McVickar was inspired by earlier cameramailing attempts by designer Kyle Van Horn .
