Drizzt Do'Urden's Corner. I typically read about science/culture/mythology and stay away from reading fiction. It's rather disheartening to invest large amounts of time into reading fiction books - which are often plodding, overly descriptive, and take too long to get going - only to realize that you don't like the plot and don't care about the characters. It's really not worth the effort for me and instead I prefer to write my own stories and create my own worlds/people which I am guaranteed to enjoy. But back in the day I had given up even on that, believing it was impossible to make written work as exciting as it is in my head or in a movie. One day while playing EverQuest and obsessing over their pretty dark elves, somebody recommended The Dark Elf Trilogy to me, saying how the main character is a pretty dark elf, dual wields swords, and fights a lot.

Sold! I went to a book store, read a bit of the Introduction, skimmed a few pages, and liked what I saw. It gave me hope! Back to top. Drizzt.com. The Elric Saga. The story of Elric, the last emperor of Melniboné, ruler of the dreaming city and keeper of the ruby throne, brings together many images of life and death, fate versus free will, generations of tradition and the destruction of that tradition, thought versus action, evil versus good , law versus chaos, and the difficulties faced when trying to reconcile and make meaning out of one's own existence. It is also a vehicle for Michael Moorcock to expound on yet another incarnation of "The Eternal Champion", a theme that runs throughout many of his fantasy novels. On this page I hope to give a brief overview and opinion of this tragic, yet action packed series.

It is certainly one of the best offerings from Michael Moorcock, and changed my views on good fantasy forever. Having discovered the Elric Saga back in 1980 it introduced me to the new idea of an anti-hero and showed me that everything does not have to turn out "OK" in every book that I read. Cymoril: Elric's cousin and consort. Drizzt Do'Urden. Drizzt Do'Urden, also called Drizzt Daermon N'a'shezbaernon, was a male drow ranger.

He was an atypical drow who had forsaken both the evil ways of his people and their home in the Underdark, to become the legendary hero of the North. [citation needed] Description Edit Drizzt Do'Urden was a drow. He stood about 5′4″ (1.63 m) tall and weighed about 130 pounds (59 kg).[8] His handsome features were sharp and well proportioned and, like other drow, Drizzt's skin was black and his stark white hair was long, thick, and flowing. His eyes were a lavender hue (quite different from the drow race's typical red, even when he used his infravision, which normally caused eyes to glow red) and seemed to glow fiercely when he was angry or determined.[11] His vision was once accustomed to the pitch-blackness of the Underdark. Personality Thoughtful and sensitive to others, Drizzt held himself to the highest ideals but didn't expect the same of others. The Hunter Edit Abilities Combat and tactics Possessions. JRR Tolkien Biography - The Tolkien Society. Photo by Pamela Chandler. © Diana Willson. Used with permission. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) was a major scholar of the English language, specialising in Old and Middle English. Twice Professor of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) at the University of Oxford, he also wrote a number of stories, including most famously The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of the Rings (1954-1955), which are set in a pre-historic era in an invented version of our world which he called by the Middle English name of Middle-earth. This was peopled by Men (and women), Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs (or Goblins) and of course Hobbits. He has regularly been condemned by the Eng. Lit. establishment, with honourable exceptions, but loved by literally millions of readers worldwide. In the 1960s he was taken up by many members of the nascent “counter-culture” largely because of his concern with environmental issues.

Then they moved to the somewhat more pleasant Birmingham suburb of Edgbaston. Which translates as: J.R.R. Games Workshop. The H.P. Lovecraft Archive.
