Now, I’ve done my fair share of stenciling (like on my pantry, toy box and end table), but it’s always been with a homemade stencil and it takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to do.
Plus the final product always looks kinda wonky when you get up close and the design is very simple. Also it takes forever….that’s worth mentioning twice. So when Cutting Edge Stencils sent me a stencil to review I was super excited. I just so happened to have a spare dining room table sitting on my front porch (what, you don’t?) And it was begging to be experimented on. Before we get started with the how to, let me just say this…this table turned out awesome. I chose the paisley allover stencil…it’s kinda country, kinda modern, and I’m kinda in love with it. It didn’t bleed or smear or anything…though I was really careful about not using too much paint. I KNOW, I love it too. Next I decided to stain over the stencil and give the table a more rustic look.

I recently blogged about a unique shelf I made from a old mannequin. Next up are these trendy boxes I purchased from Michaels. The first one I will show you has a neat design with gold foiling, adding a nice contrast to the subtle print. This box was available in different sizes but the one I bought had enough room for four racks. In these next few pictures you will see what is holding up the bracelets. You might be wondering what is holding up the dowels? I used leather glue.... The placing of the half circles took a bit of planning to make sure the rows would be evenly spaced. Pin It Once the basic shape is cut out, use Mod Podge to glue a rectangle of lace to the front of the paper frame. Fold the frame where you see dotted lines in the above diagram. Cheese to Please I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of copywriting students at WSU today, and I brought them a little snack - slices of pumpkin pie made out cheddar cheese wedges, assorted crackers and ranch dressing-flavored cream cheese.The topic of today's presentation was: How to think visually. So naturally I shared a slideshow of my food art attempts and tried to explain the concepts behind the creations. After all, great creative always starts with a solid concept, right? I'm not sure if I taught them anything, but at least I fed them.* The crackers I used were Triscuit Thin Crisps Chile Pepper (triangles), Chicken in a Biskit (rectangles), and Chex Mix Bold Party Blend (wavy sticks).
I attached them to the cheese wedges with dollops of ranch dressing-flavored ream cheese. How to Make a Rose Apple Tart. I love pie. Love it. LOVE it. For flavor, it can't be beat, in my opinion. No finer dessert around. I was inspired by classic French apple tarts. This was more of a technique than a recipe, really, but I'll list out the ingredients I used, too. Rose Apple Tart Recipe single pie crust recipe Four or five large apples, sliced thinly 1/3 cup sugar 1 t cinnamon 2 t lemon juice 2 T butter, melted First thing's first: make your dough. Pin It Now it's time to start forming the roses. To create the center of the rose, roll one apple slice in a tight coil. Bingo! Materials: gold spray paint, pink glitter, glue that adheres to glass (I used a universal glue found here in Denmark), spray mount, glass candlestick, and glass candle holder. Step 1: put some glue around the rim of the candlestick. Step 2: Attach the holder to the candlestick. Step 3: Spray the cupcake stand gold. Step 4: With the spray mount, spray about 3″ of the perimeter of the stand. Step 5: Quickly after, pour the glitter onto the stand. Voila!
