Ayant fait main basse sur les 250.000 notes en possession de WikiLeaks, le journal norvégien Aftenposten lève le voile depuis un mois sur les secrets de la diplomatie américaine sans avoir à suivre le script bien ordonné de Julian Assange.
Dans les locaux feutrés de la rédaction, en plein coeur d'Oslo, une trentaine de journalistes épluchent l'immense base de données obtenue par un tour de passe-passe dont il n'est pas question de livrer les ficelles. "Cela a nécessité pas mal de boulot. Disons qu'on n'a pas eu tout cela par un courriel qui s'est égaré", confie le rédacteur Ole Erik Almlid. "Mais nous n'avons pas payé, aucune condition n'y était attachée et on publie absolument ce qu'on veut en suivant les stricts critères rédactionnels habituels", ajoute-t-il.
