The Three Johns were a post-punk/indie rock band formed in 1981 in Leeds originally consisting of The Mekons co-founder, Jon Langford (guitar) as well as John Hyatt (vocals) and Phillip "John" Brennan (bass), augmented by a drum machine.[1] History[edit] The band initially formed just before the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, and their first gig was to be part of 'Funk The Wedding' event, but they were refused permission to play because they were drunk.[1] They signed to CNT Records in 1982, which Langford jointly founded, releasing two singles and an EP for the label, including a re-working of the Mekons' "English White Boy Engineer", which attacked hypocritical attitudes towards South Africa and apartheid, the band being labelled as left-wing rockers.[1] The band explained "We're not a socialist band.

We're a group of socialists who are in a band. It's a fine distinction but an important one"[1] Discography[edit] Chart placings shown are from the UK Indie Chart.[5] Windolene. Sverjans | Plixi. Donald .... Duck! ALT-C 2010 - ALT-C 2010 - In Defense of Lecture. July 27, 2010 at 3:11 pm Lectures have a black eye on college campuses today. We’re told that they are useless, and that they are ineffective with out “explicit constructionism.” We’re told to use active learning techniques in lecture, like clickers. I’m realizing that there’s nothing wrong with lecture itself, and that the psychology results tell us that lectures should be a highly efficient form of learning. The problem is that there is an interaction between lecture as learning intervention and our students. That is an education (or broadly, a learning science) result, and it’s important to note the distinction between education (as instructional engineering, as psychology-in-practice) and psychology. I just served on a Psychology Masters thesis committee.

He had a test on the content immediately after the training, and another a week later. The problem is that Georgia Tech students (the subjects in the study) are darn smart and well-practiced learners. Like this: Like Loading... The UsPaCe project. Share photos on Twitter. Jilster - samen een mooi tijdschrift maken. Google's Long History of Social Media Attempts [INFOGRAPHIC] Sure Facebook privacy issues can be frustrating, but what's the alternative? With more than 400 million users, no other social media platform has been able to touch Facebook's grip on person-to-person networking. But rumors have already started to fly that Facebook may soon face some stiff new competition.

Google is supposedly getting into the market with Google Me, a not-yet-launched, oft-rumored social network that will directly compete with Facebook. Nothing is for certain yet, but more and more sources are saying Google Me does exist, and that could mean good things for all of us. If anyone were to take on Facebook, Google has the engineering talent, deep pockets, and customer loyalty required to give it a fair shot. Still, Google hasn't had the best track record when it comes to social media attempts. EDIT: The graphic has been updated to include Google Lively. Google and Verizon in Talks on Selling Internet Priority. 8 Reasons to Focus on Informal & Social Learning. Genesis – Trespass -> Brings back memories. Openscholar. The Learning Layer – Review. The Learning Layer: Building the next level of intellect in your organization, begins with some solid insights on how learning is the key to performing in the networked workplace. Learning has been the traditional realm of HR while most systems are supported by IT.

This means that HR supports the people who produce the tacit knowledge while IT supports the systems that store the explicit knowledge. Steve Flinn, the author, uses the analogy of knowledge as stock and learning as flow. An organization’s intellectual capital is a factor of both, which “makes it really clear just how inseparable the management of a business’s knowledge is from the learning processes”.

The proliferation of current web technologies now presents us with two major opportunities: The knowledge and insights within the heads of people can be leveraged without overtly taking actions to make it so. The first three parts of the book are full of good ideas, insight and analysis, but Part 4 is a bit of a letdown. iPad bezitters zijn rijk, hoog opgeleid en niet vriendelijk.

Just had a visit from "the cannibal", greatest cyclist of all. On Social Learning, Sensemaking Capacity, and Collective Intelligence: Radio 1.

Googles new text to speech engine is fricking sweet. Spectacle at Web2.0 Expo… from my perspective.

Last week, I gave a talk at Web2.0 Expo. From my perspective, I did a dreadful job at delivering my message. Yet, the context around my talk sparked a broad conversation about the implications of turning the backchannel into part of the frontchannel. In the last week, I’ve seen all sorts of blog posts and tweets and news articles about what went down. At this point, the sting has worn off and I feel that it would be responsible to offer my own perspective of what happened.

First, context. Because of the high profile nature of Web2.0 Expo, I decided to write a brand new talk. A week before the conference, I received word from the organizers that I was not going to have my laptop on stage with me. When I showed up at the conference, I realized that the setup was different than I imagined. I only learned about the Twitter feed shortly before my talk. When I walked out on stage, I was also in for a new shock: the lights were painfully bright. Yes, I cried. So…. the Backchannel? Eerste Nationale Dag van de Bibliotheekinnovatie, met Livestreams.
