The Three Johns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Three Johns were a Post Punk / Indie Rock band formed in 1981 in Leeds originally consisting of The Mekons co-founder, Jon Langford (guitar) as well as John Hyatt (vocals) and Phillip "John" Brennan (bass), augmented by a drum machine . [ 1 ] [ edit ] History The band initially formed just before the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer , and their first gig was to be part of 'Funk The Wedding' event, but they were refused permission to play because they were drunk. [ 1 ] They signed to CNT Records in 1982, which Langford jointly founded, releasing two singles and an EP for the label, including a re-working of the Mekons' "English White Boy Engineer", which attacked hypocritical attitudes towards South Africa and apartheid, the band being labelled as left-wing rockers. [ 1 ] The band explained "We're not a socialist band.Impressions from my first ALT Conference
Instead of taking the nap that I should be taking (considering that I have only slept 4 hours for the past 2 nights), I thought I'd write a short blog entry with some impressions of my first ever attendance at an ALT-Conference. Firstly, I've finally met - in the flesh - some of the tweeps that I feel I've known for ages. Secondly, I find the Twitter backchannel increasingly important at a conference. For instance, it allowed me to deduce that @daveowhite 's talk - that I didn't attend - should have been the opening keynote. I also got to know new tweeps through the backchannel - and made a separate Twitter list for them.Sugata Mitra's "Hole in the Wall" experiments have shown that, in the absence of supervision or formal teaching, children can teach themselves and each other, if they're motivated by curiosity and peer interest.

Reflection is an essential aspect of learning, allowing students to progress through identification of learning strengths and needs. This commonly involves construction of reflective portfolios. Building reflection is rarely popular with students (Driessen et al, 2005).·The presentation offers a model for students’ learning in immersive virtual worlds based on the degree of presence and embodiment developed by students in a series of five case studies. These stages are mapped to the five-stage model of Salmon (2004), the developing relationship with one’s avatar proposed by Warburton (2008) and de Vinemont’s concepts of body image and body schema. It was found that, unless students had acquired the necessary degree of presence required for the activity, then the activity was not successful. This model is intended to provide educators with an outline of progressive development of presence to support their teaching in virtual worlds.

The agreement could eventually lead to higher charges for Internet users. Such an agreement could overthrow a once-sacred tenet of Internet policy known as , in which no form of content is favored over another. In its place, consumers could soon see a new, tiered system, which, like cable television, imposes higher costs for premium levels of service. Any agreement between Verizon and Google could also upend the efforts of the to assert its authority over broadband service, which was severely restricted by a federal appeals court decision in April. People close to the negotiations who were not authorized to speak publicly about them said an agreement could be reached as soon as next week.
