Was 'Antipolitics' a Failure? While I was writing this essay, I was reminded of an anecdote from Plato's "Republic". In Book One, Socrates tries to persuade Polemarchus, who is dragging Socrates against his will, to release him. Polemarchus remarks, "How are you going to persuade us if we don't listen?"
Source: http://october2011.org Inspired by the courageous, nonviolent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Greece, Spain, and elsewhere, people in the United States have come together to form the October2011 Movement. This fusion of peace, social justice, environmental, student, and immigrant rights organizations is in solidarity with all who seek a peaceful, just, and sustainable future and stands ready to engage in its own campaign of nonviolent resistance beginning in Washington, D.C., this October. We recognize that your revolution is our revolution, that American Empire prevents you from achieving self-determination and economic justice, and that only together can we achieve our shared goals.

Our struggles are interconnected and so we organize in mutual support and solidarity with each other. The October2011 Movement is planning an occupation and nonviolent resistance actions in Washington, DC starting on October 6, 2011. This date marks the 10-year anniversary of the U.S. war in Afghanistan and the first week of the new federal budget which provides unlimited funding for war, tax breaks for the wealthy and austerity for human services.
Dear patriots, rabble-rousers, revolutionaries, On Saturday thousands of us will occupy Wall Street . We will wave our signs, unfurl our banners, beat our drums, chant our slogans … and then we'll get down to business and hold several people's assemblies to decide what our "one demand" will be. Shall we demand that President Obama reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act ; outlaw flash trading ; impose a 1% tax on all financial transactions? These are good ideas but not very energizing. How about we demand the revocation of corporate personhood?
A Privately Owned Public Space (POPS) is an amenity provided, constructed and maintained by a property owner/developer for public use in exchange for additional floor area. POPS are primarily achieved as-of-right through incentive zoning , although some POPS were created by way of a special permit granted by the City Planning Commission. Privately owned public spaces have been encouraged in the city’s high-density commercial and residential districts as a means of increasing light and air and green space, and easing the hard streetscape formed by towering buildings bordered by concrete sidewalks.
Glossary of Planning Terms This glossary provides brief explanations of planning and zoning terminology, including terms highlighted in the Zoning Handbook. Words and phrases followed by an asterisk (*) in the Glossary are legally defined terms in the Zoning Resolution of the City of New York, and can be found primarily in Section 12-10 of the Resolution for the complete legal definitions.
Comments Page 1 of 3 pages 1 2 3 > I said at the end of one paragraph: "Upon a visit to the president, Herbert Hoover was asked by a reporter if he was going to resign. Hoover replied: "The wish is farthest from the fact." the same answer applies here." It should have said: "Upon a visit to the president, J Edgar Hoover was asked by a reporter if he was going to resign. Hoover replied: "The wish is farthest from the fact."
An article published today in Computer World reports on a relatively unusual bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center warning financial institutions about risks of attack, surrounding the planned September 17th protest “Occupy Wall Street.” The article author claims that “Anonymous” has been using twitter to solicit assistance from disgruntled financial institution employees, to then exploit to damage those institutions. I can’t confirm or deny that claim. I will say that in my experience in observing Anonymous that if they want your password, they’ll give it to you.
