Greenpeace Protesters Scale Crane, Display Giant 600-sq. ft. Banner - Democratic Underground

Seven protesters from the environmental group Greenpeace scaled a construction crane next to the State Department early this morning and unfurled a large banner protesting global warming, part of a dramatic demonstration that drew scores of emergency workers and snarled traffic into downtown from Northern Virginia. The 600-square-foot banner bore the Greenpeace logo and showed a satellite picture of planet Earth. The block-letter caption "TOO BIG TO FAIL" echoed recent government explanations of the decision to bail out major U.S. financial institutions.

On a sunny afternoon in Florence i visited one of those exhibitions which lingers in your mind for days because of the questions and debates they set in motion inside your brain. The theme of the Art, Price and Value was selected a long time ago but given the current frenzy about the state of the art market it could not have been more timely nor thought-provoking. The exhibition, which closed a few days ago at the Strozzina cultural Center, explored how the economy has come to manipulate art production, affecting its every aspects.
