Summer ideas

Facebook Twitter

The Cookaholic Wife: SRC: Salty Caramel Ice Cream. Nothing says summer to me like the music of an ice cream truck coming down the street. Its one of those sounds that instantly invokes childhood memories of playing outside all day, hearing the familiar jingle and chasing the ice cream truck down the street with your friends to enjoy a cool treat. I didn't realize how much I missed that sound until we moved here. I don't think we once heard or saw an ice cream truck the entire time we lived in the middle of nowhere, MD. Which is pretty logical when you think about it, but the first time I heard that familiar jingle in our new apartment it took every ounce of decorum in me not to grab a dollar and go running outside. Not that I think there is anything wrong with adults chasing down the ice cream truck (because there totally isn't!) For this month's Secret Recipe Club, I was assigned Cupcake Muffin. To me this is the epitome of awesomeness. Stay hungry my friends.

Ruffles & Roses: A Mad(ish) Tea Party. You made it!

Ruffles & Roses: A Mad(ish) Tea Party

You are so sweet for coming to my first tea party in honour of my enchanting friend and talented artist, Vanessa Valencia and her annual A Fanciful Twist virtual Mad Tea Party. So perhaps her tea party will be a teeny, tiny bit madder than mine, and nothing short of magical, but of course it will. That, my friends, is why she is the one and only Vanessa Valencia. I, however, am more than thrilled to share my Sweetapolita spin on a mad tea party with you all, and to me, a tea party, mad or not, could only be complete with some fancy tea-time treats. Now, let us see if we can find our way to those treats . . . Oh my goodness, I’ve a feeling we’re not in suburbia anymore. Why yes, roses! Finally, you’ve arrived, and you’ve spotted something petite and sweet . . . Fairy cakes? Two-Bite Strawberry Hand Pies. This post comes to you from damply beautiful Seattle, Washington!

Two-Bite Strawberry Hand Pies

Yes, kids, I am in Seattle for BlogHer Food 2012 and not just as an attendee, but I am speaking! I am nervous, but terribly excited, and ready to get the party started! The last month has been a CRAZY travel month for me. First, I went to Camp Blogaway, then I spent 6 days in Tokyo (expect a few Japanese themed recipes in the future – the place is life changing!) , and now I am here in Seattle. I decided to make the filling for these little pies fairly rich. Chocolate cake in a cup - Dishing - Boston food blog. Until today, I was unaware of this apparent e-mail/Internet phenomenon.

Simple Cake Borders (Piping Buttercream) : Hurry Up, Cakes! Category: Cake Decorations There are going to be cakes on this site that require “piping” borders using a stiff buttercream icing. ”Piping” uses a pastry bag filled with buttercream and an attached “tip” that makes different shapes and different styles of borders.

Simple Cake Borders (Piping Buttercream) : Hurry Up, Cakes!

If you’ve never used a pastry bag before, it can be a bit intimidating… but it really (truly) is simple once you know the basics. Here’s a link to a YouTube video that demonstrates how to add a tip to a pastry bag, how to fill it, and how to pipe a few simple borders. The only caution I will offer about this video is that the first several times you fill a pastry bag, it will be a lot messier than the delightful woman in the video makes it look. Go slow, make it as neat as you can, but don’t worry if you end up with buttercream frosting in your hair. Cake Decorating: Cake Decorating Ideas & Techniques From Wilton. Chocolate Cream Cakes. Matcha Green Tea Mochi

While I've made quite a few mochi cakes, such as strawberry mochi cake, blueberry mochi cake, cherry mochi cake and pumpkin mochi cake, I've never made the traditional mochi. A few years ago, I saw a recipe for making mochi that seemed really simple and fast and just required the use of a microwave. I put it on my mental list of things I wanted to try making at some point. After I began baking with match green tea powder, I came up with the idea of making green tea flavored mochi and stuffing it with the traditional red bean paste. I was able to buy the red bean paste at Ranch 99. Matcha Green tea shortbread leaves. Saturday, March 20, 2010.
