" I got to know Kate through MyBreastCancerTeam, a social network specifically for women facing breast cancer. Through the network, she shares cartoons that reflect life through the lens of someone who's made it to the other side of breast cancer, yet is still living with the fear of recurrence. Some of these factors, such as your genes and your family history, are things you can’t control. Other factors, such as what you eat, maintaining a healthy weight, and minimizing your exposure to chemicals in the environment, are things you have more control over.
A Canadian study suggests that certain jobs, including those in farming and manufacturing that expose women to high levels of carcinogens and endocrine disrupters, seem to increase breast cancer risk. NEW YORK (AP) -- Best Buy shares fell on Friday after the struggling electronics retailer said it extended the window for co-founder Richard Schulze to make a buyout bid until after the holiday season. Shares fell $2.07, or 14.6 percent, to close at $12.05 Friday. That erased most of the gains made Thursday when Best Buy shares jumped 16 percent on a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Schulze would make a bid by the end of the week.
The report cited unidentified sources. But on Friday, Best Buy said Schulze can make his offer between Feb. 1, 2013 and Feb. 28, 2013. The app would tally drone strikes in a given area accompanied with a small news blurb. Labeling it “objectionable and crude,” Apple refuses to allow the program’s creator to offer the app to iPhone users, stating it violates the “objectionable content” guideline regulating software developers. Developer finds hidden smartphone logging app. A security researcher by the name of Trevor Eckhart has uncovered a hidden application installed on many popular smartphones that logs nearly everything the user does.
Eckhart has posted a 17-minute video on YouTube that shows how the software tracks text messages, Google searches, phone numbers and more. In the video, Eckhart details the process on his HTC EVO 3D but the software is present on other handsets from manufacturers like RIM and Nokia. The app is called HTC IQ Agent on the EVO 3D and it’s impossible to stop the application from running in the app settings on HTC Android devices. A teen who consumes alcohol is likely to have reduced brain tissue health, but a teen who uses marijuana is not, according to a new study.
Researchers scanned the brains of 92 adolescents, ages 16 to 20, before and after an 18-month period. During that year and a half, half of the teens -- who already had extensive alcohol and marijuana-use histories -- continued to use marijuana and alcohol in varying amounts. The other half abstained or kept consumption minimal, as they had throughout adolescence. The before-and-after brain scans of the teens consuming typically five or more drinks at least twice a week showed reduced white matter brain tissue health, study co-author Susan Tapert, neuroscientist at University of California, San Diego, told HuffPost.
