Peace Boat’s Ecoship. The Ecoship project is a new eco-friendly ship concept developed by Peace Boat, a Japanese non-profit organisation that promotes human rights and environmental sustainability by organising peace voyages on chartered passenger ships. Peace Boat gathered experts from different fields, including naval architecture, marine engineering, renewable energy, energy efficiency, maritime law, biomimicry and biophilia for an eco-friendly ship design workshop in Germany in April 2014. The Ecoship concept was revealed by the company in December 2015 at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in Paris, France.
The maiden voyage of the vessel is expected in 2020. Once built, the ship is expected to be the world's first ten-mast cruise liner. Why, in Australia, the first day of spring/autumn is the 1st and not the 22nd. The four seasons imposed on Australia by northern Europeans are human artefact and have no resemblance to reality. Long before Copernicus and Keppler came along, the seasons were identified by the fruiting and flowering of plants, the migration of birds and other animals and by the weather. In northern Europe they had four seasons. In Australia, using exactly the same methods of defining seasons, the number of seasons varies from two in the central desert to eight among the Wik people of Cape York.
The most common number of seasons is six. Nowhere in Australia that I know of has four seasons of approximately three months each. There is a story, probably apocryphal, that in the early days of the colony, the NSW Corps and the Royal Navy changed from their summer to their winter uniforms on 1 March and back to their summer uniforms on 1 September. It is convenient to start the seasons on the first of the month.
