Het blijkt een diepe herstructurering van heel het HBO en WO te verbergen. Met bekostiging via ‘vouchers’ staan straks ook de masteropleidingen op de tocht. Vanuit het departement is de voorbije weken nadrukkelijk, maar veelal in beslotenheid, gemeld dat dat er niet 'bezuinigd' wordt op het HO-deeltijdonderwijs. Wat is er aan de hand?
OCW geeft aan dat het niet meer bekostigen van HO-deeltijd leidt tot een herschikking van de overheidsuitgaven. Voor die deelnemers-financiering is het beladen begrip 'vouchers' op tafel gekomen. Of dit kan zonder de bestaande publieke opleidingen in met name het HBO eerst ten onder te laten gaan, is niet helder en roept daar grote onzekerheden op. McDonald’s betaalt dan een jaar lang je les- of collegegeld.” McDonalds wil best je studie betalen, mits je jouw expertise voor hen gebruikt. Net als de zogenaamde Steve Jobs-scholen, waar kinderen leren omgaan met een iPad (zodat zij later eerder een Apple-product dan een product van de concurrent kopen) deed het mij denken aan ‘Jennifer Government’, een roman uit 2003 waarin kinderen verkocht worden aan bedrijven.

Many other students were aware of the tension but did not have a strong opinion.
They viewed much of their world very pragmatically and did not feel Google's potential departure from China impacted them. Some didn't care because they only used a non-Google search tool such as Baidu - Google's main competitor in China. Some did use Google, but they believed it was only a tool and that there were others that could also meet their needs. If they were aware of the censorship debate, it was also not seen as an issue impacting their daily lives. The lack of awareness or level of disinterest in the students may come as a surprise. There were, though, a number of students who did have strong opinions and held Google in high regard.
Some students also felt that Google was "on their side". She also spoke about Google. Google Partners with Oxford, Harvard & Others to Digitize Libraries - Search Engine Watch (SEW) Google is working closely with five new content partners on a massive scanning project that will bring millions of volumes of printed books into the Google Print database. Google is working with libraries at the University of Michigan, Harvard University, Stanford University, Oxford University and the New York Public Library to digitize books in their collections and make them accessible via Google Print.
Google Print was expanded in October and allows publishers to make scanned copies of books available through Google. (See: Google Print Opens Widely To Publishers) At the University of Michigan, the plan is to scan seven million titles over a six year period using a non-destructive scanning technology that Google has developed. The university will also be given a copy of each file to use as they see fit. A "digitize the complete library" arrangement is also the current plan at Stanford and Oxford, and the New York Public Library will also be running a pilot project.

Wade Roush4/12/10 If you glanced at the software engineering job listings page for Google Boston, you might think that the company’s Kendall Square office has only two positions open. That would be wrong. Site director Steven Vinter says the office has been hiring aggressively since December. The growth would have started sooner if it hadn’t been for the recession, which didn’t slow Google’s expansion much, but did seem to engender a kind of constipation in the local software community, with people unwilling to risk leaving their current positions, Vinter says.
But conditions have eased and the company is now getting more resumes. In any case, the two positions described on the job page—software engineer and software tester—are just roles, Vinter says. The company is hiring many people to fill each one. With major news about Chrome, Chrome OS, Friend Connect, and other products expected later this year, it’s likely that Google Boston’s profile within the company will keep rising. Google’s Cambridge office included in global hiring spree. The Cambridge office of search engine giant Google Inc. has grown to employ more than 300 people, and now it’s making room for more. The company is recruiting local engineers, advertising managers, and administrative staff — all part of a global hiring spree, the biggest in Google’s history, with plans to hire more than 6,000 workers worldwide this year. “The Boston area is home to a wealth of talent and we’re excited to continue to grow our presence in the region,’’ said Brian Schmidt, director of online sales at Google Cambridge.
Already, Google’s employment website lists a host of openings in Cambridge, including software engineers, product managers, advertising account executives, technical support engineers, and even a specialist in hiring new workers. The office in Cambridge employs sales personnel for the company’s vast online advertising business. Bedrijfsleven snakt naar talent. 2 februari 2011 - De jacht op jong talent is weer geopend. De aantrekkende economie, het terugkerende vertrouwen en de demografie zorgen ervoor dat CEO’s van grote bedrijven hun pijlen weer richten op het verwerven van ‘talent, kennis en kunde’. Gebrek daaraan zien zijn als hun belangrijkste bedreiging, zo bleek tijdens ‘Davos’. 54% van hen gaat hieraan extra werken met kennisinstellingen.
Op het World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos presenteerde Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) zijn '14 e CEO Survey'. Belangrijkste punt hierin is de 'war for talent' die zeker in Nederland zeer aan de orde is in het bedrijfsleven. 63 procent van de in het onderzoek ondervraagde CEO's ziet de beschikbaarheid van talent en kennis als een bedreiging. "Door de aantrekkende arbeidsmarkt en de komende vergrijzingsgolf laait de 'war for talent' ook in Nederland op," aldus Robert Swaak, voorzitter van PwC in Nederland. Grote katalysatoren in dit terugkerend vertrouwen vormen de BRIC-landen.
Plan van aanpak scholarships. 17 maart 2011 - Het VVD-idee van scholarships van bedrijven voor getalenteerde studenten zal verder worden uitgewerkt door de Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen. Hoe OCW en EL&I hier samen aan gaan werken met betrekking tot het topgebiedenbeleid blijft nog onduidelijk. Staatsecretaris Zijlstra heeft in zijn antwoorden op Kamervragen van VVD-partijgenoot Anne-Wil Lucas - over de uitwerking van scholarships voor studenten naar aanleiding van het ScienceGuide-artikel Bedrijfsleven snakt naar talent- aangegeven dat de Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen de uitvoering hiervan op zich zal nemen. Lucas had Zijlstra eerder gewezen op de nogal summiere aandacht voor haar scholarships-initiatief in de kabinetsreactie op 'Veerman'.
De staatssecretaris verklaart nu dat "het geenszins mijn bedoeling [is] geweest om de suggestie te wekken dat ik het hierbij zou laten". Aansluiting bij bestaande initiatieven Gastheer voor het proces. Kabinet: laat markt beurzen uitreiken. Wellicht krijgen masterstudenten in de toekomst vaker stipendia of beurzen uit het bedrijfsleven. Het kabinet wil dit aanjagen en hoopt dat dit de gevolgen van de bezuinigingen zal dempen. Nu masterstudenten hun basisbeurs verliezen, komt er misschien meer ruimte voor werkgevers: die kunnen talentvolle studenten aan zich binden door hen een studiebeurs te geven. In een motie hebben CDA en VVD gevraagd of het ministerie de mogelijkheden eens kan verkennen. Maar de VVD vond dat het kabinet hier niet snel genoeg mee aan de slag ging en stelde vorige maand extra vragen. Zijlstra stelt de vragenstellers van zijn eigen partij gerust. De komende maanden houdt het ministerie van OCW interviews met studenten, werkgevers, onderwijsinstellingen en ondernemers om te kijken welke ideeën ze hebben.

Populaire werkgevers lijken wat minder geïnteresseerd om een deel van de studiekosten van studenten te betalen.
Lucas stelde dit najaar voor om studenten door het bedrijfsleven te laten sponsoren met scholarships. Inmiddels heeft ze enkele gesprekken met werkgevers achter de rug. Wat is uw eerste indruk? “Ik verwacht dat er genoeg bedrijven en organisaties zijn die studenten al voor hun afstuderen aan zich willen binden. Zo’n scholarship is duur, maar daar staat tegenover dat werkgevers minder geld hoeven uit te geven aan werving. “Scholarships zijn denk ik vooral aantrekkelijk voor bedrijven die lager scoren op de favorietenlijstjes van studenten of die moeite hebben met het vinden van gespecialiseerd personeel.
