The Demonic Paradise Wiki

Those who are determined to overcome the world are not the people of history. I’ve just been reading about the ‘Gnostics’ whose heyday was in the second century of the common era; A time in the early Christian church when the lines between heresy and orthodoxy hadn’t yet been drawn.

Those who are determined to overcome the world are not the people of history

Valentinus, regarded as one of the greatest Gnostic teachers, almost became pope in the 140’s. The Gnostics stressed the importance of gnosis (knowledge); Direct personal, inner knowledge of ‘God’, rather than dogma. They were in the main, anti-authoritarian and anti-hierarchical, taking it in turns to officiate during services. they also regarded women as the equal of men and had female priests. Others who did not enjoy the status of first-class citizen, such as the poor and outcast, were also welcomed. The Gnostics posited the existence of two gods, the incompetent, arrogant and capricious ‘creator’ God of the Old Testament who they named ‘the Demiurge,’ and the true God who exists beyond all created matter and is essentially unknowable. As Stephen Hoeller notes: Nag Hammadi Library. The Nag Hammadi Library, a collection of thirteen ancient books (called "codices") containing over fifty texts, was discovered in upper Egypt in 1945.

Nag Hammadi Library

This immensely important discovery includes a large number of primary "Gnostic Gospels" – texts once thought to have been entirely destroyed during the early Christian struggle to define "orthodoxy" – scriptures such as the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Philip, and the Gospel of Truth. The discovery and translation of the Nag Hammadi library, initially completed in the 1970's, has provided impetus to a major re-evaluation of early Christian history and the nature of Gnosticism. For an introduction to the Nag Hammadi discovery and the texts in this ancient library, we offer several resources. First, read an excerpt from Elaine Pagels' excellent popular introduction to the Nag Hammadi texts, The Gnostic Gospels.

No longer just a redeemed sinner or sensuous projection for artists, Gnosticism revealed a Mary Magdalene who was a spiritual visionary, a religious leader, and perhaps the main disciple of the risen Christ. In the Nag Hammadi library’s Dialogue with of Savior, she is proclaimed as “the woman who understood The All.” The most popular narration of Mary Magdalene today is the Gospel of Mary (even though its discovery is well over a century old). In this scripture, Mary shares in a mystic vision with Jesus concerning the infinite domains. She moreover comforts and leads the other apostles, although not without conflict. In The Pre-Nicene New Testament, Robert M. Price summarizes Mary’s role this scripture as “a symbolic figurehead for Gnostic and other sects who claimed her as their authorization. The Serpent of Salvation. We have said that, according to the Gnostic interpretation of Genesis, the creator god imprisoned Adam and Eve in a world of misery and gave them a subservient soul.

The Serpent of Salvation

The bible says that after eating the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve hid themselves, ashamed by the mistake they had made. God arrived in paradise and called Adam with these words: "Where are you? " He appeared to be acting like a master calling his servant. When he didn't find him, he seemed to be saying: "Where are you? Where have you hidden yourself? This creator god created Adam and Eve incapable of distinguishing between good and evil, between the uncreated kingdom and the created one.

Why did he create them like this? In his book "La franc-maçonnerie", Father Leon Meurin describes the Gnostic interpretations of the earthly paradise and the Serpent of Genesis, and the following ideas come up: Jehovah does not want man to know his origin or his great destiny. But man did wake up, and he did become aware of good and evil. Gnostic Christianity and the Myth of Sophia. Gnostic Christianity and the Myth of Sophia by Bette Stockbauer In 1945, near the banks of the River Nile, a jar was unearthed which contained one of the richest manuscript finds of modern history -- the Nag Hammadi codices.

Gnostic Christianity and the Myth of Sophia

Like the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered two years later, this library of ancient documents (dated AD 350) contained texts relating to early Christianity that the world had never seen. The Dead Sea texts belonged to an earlier, Jewish branch of Christianity, and the works from Nag Hammadi to a later philosophical movement, called Gnosticism. Since their discovery scholars have long pondered their contents, questioning their relation to original Christianity.

In these pages we will look into their times to see the forces that shaped their thought. We will see in their writings totally new Gospels, teaching dialogues between Jesus and his followers, collections of sayings, and cosmological myths of vast design. Sophia, Greek Goddess of Divine Wisdom and Gnostic Great Mother. A Homily for the Descent of the Holy Sophia. The Nativity of Our Lady The date that Gnostics celebrate as the Descent of Sophia corresponds to the traditional date for the Birth of Mary in the Church Calendar.

A Homily for the Descent of the Holy Sophia

Both of these mythic motifs relate to the coming down to earth of the feminine image of the Redeemer. The story of the descent of Sophia is the story of our own fall into matter. The story of the birth of Mary describes the role of the Holy Female Power in our own redemption and liberation. The Holy Gnostic Rosary.
