How Do Our Minds Affect Our Health?

In an attempt to talk my parents out of making me do this hated chore, I pretended to be ill by hanging my head, sighing, sniffling, and walking lethargically to my bedroom, all to no avail—I still had to do those dishes. But, the next day, I woke up with the flu —a 104-degree fever and stomach pains to match. Boy, were my parents surprised! And, so was I. But, how many of us have had similar experiences, where our minds seemed to somehow impact our bodies in weird, unexplainable ways? This is the subject of science writer Jo Marchant’s new book, Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind Over Body. In Greater Good, we’ve covered the science on mindfulness showing how it impacts psychological and physical health.

“If an empathic healer makes us feel cared for and secure, rather than under threat, this alone can trigger significant biological changes that ease our symptoms,” writes Marchant. Clearly this is not Marchant’s intent.

By Ken Lauher The word “clutter” comes from the Middle English word “clotteren,” meaning to clot.

5 Items to Remove From Your Life Right Now

A “clot” is an appropriate description for clutter if we think of Feng Shui as harnessing and directing the way energy moves through a space, the same way blood runs through our veins. If there is a “clot,” or clutter, in your home or apartment, the energy can’t flow, the same way blood won’t flow if there is a “clot” in a vein. Either situation can be exceptionally dangerous.

And I’m not just talking about tripping over a toy truck in the middle of the night or stubbing your toe on a coffee table that is too big for the room it’s in. The Flow of Energy and Why It’s Important. Loneliness, like chronic stress, taxes the immune system, researchers find. New research links loneliness to a number of dysfunctional immune responses, suggesting that being lonely has the potential to harm overall health.

Loneliness, like chronic stress, taxes the immune system, researchers find

Researchers found that people who were more lonely showed signs of elevated latent herpes virus reactivation and produced more inflammation-related proteins in response to acute stress than did people who felt more socially connected. These proteins signal the presence of inflammation, and chronic inflammation is linked to numerous conditions, including coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, arthritis and Alzheimer's disease, as well as the frailty and functional decline that can accompany aging. Reactivation of a latent herpes virus is known to be associated with stress, suggesting that loneliness functions as a chronic stressor that triggers a poorly controlled immune response. "One reason this type of research is important is to understand how loneliness and relationships broadly affect health. 10 Surprising Effects of Lack of Sleep. You may not know what it can do to your sex life, memory, health, looks, and even ability to lose weight. Here are 10 surprising -- and serious -- effects of sleep loss. 1. Sleep deprivation was a factor in some of the biggest disasters in recent history: the 1979 nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, the massive Exxon Valdez oil spill, the 1986 nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl, and others. But sleep loss is also a big public safety hazard every day on the road.

Studies show that sleep loss and poor-quality sleep also lead to accidents and injuries on the job. Dr. Bruce Lipton: The Biology of Belief - Where Mind and Matter Meet. A radically new understanding is unfolding at the leading edge of science: Dr.

Dr. Bruce Lipton: The Biology of Belief - Where Mind and Matter Meet

Lipton's profoundly hopeful synthesis of the latest and best research in cell biology and quantum physics is being hailed as a major breakthrough showing that our bodies can be changed as we retrain our thinking. “You can live a life of fear or live a life of love. You have the choice! But I can tell you that if you choose to see a world full of love, your body will respond by growing in health. If you choose to believe that you live in a dark world full of fear, your body’s health will be compromised as you physiologically close yourself down in a protection response.” — Dr.
