Surveys, Stats and Data/News

Gathering factual data gives insight into how prevalent cyberbullying is amongst adolescents. We created a google form survey filled with questions related to cyberbullying and posted it on our Snapchat stories (with the aim of receiving input from teens).

After gathering responses from 33 different people, 63.6% had been cyberbullied by a stranger before. Additionally, according to data from Statista.com, 42% of U.S. teenagers experienced offensive name-calling online. Furthermore, the graph by cyberbullying.org shows that 22% of adolescents in the U.S. have had rumors spread about them online. As per the data from ditchthelabel.org, the most common bullying platform is Instagram, with 42% of cyberbullying cases. It is closely followed by Facebook, and this is expected seeing that these are the platforms where people share the most about themselves and provide the most reason to be targeted. This is supported by the evidence provided by stopbullying.gov where 61% of cyberbullying incidents target looks, something that is shared more on Facebook and Instagram. Using factual information is effective in campaigning for cyberbullying prevention as it is inarguable and puts into perspective how prevalent cyberbullying is. It also helps clearly see where the problem is, and what’s causing it, enabling it to be addressed more directly and effectively.
