Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer and songwriter known for her powerful deep contralto vocals [ 1 ] and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B , soul and jazz . [ 2 ] Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank , was critically successful in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize . Her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black , led to six Grammy Award nominations and five wins, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British female to win five Grammys, [ 3 ] [ 4 ] including three of the " Big Four ": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2007 she won a Brit Award for Best British Female Artist; she had also been nominated for Best British Album.

Reuters : Police said they had found the body of a 27-year-old woman at a flat in Camden Square, north London, after being called by ambulance services around 1500 GMT (11 a.m. EDT). She was a talented artist with a disease, and a long line of enablers who depended on her. As an aside, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, and Janis Joplin died at the same age and in a similar manner .

Autopsy Results Inconclusive

The cause of Amy Winehouse's death will remain a mystery for at least another fortnight as autopsy results found Monday were inconclusive. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Metropolitan Police will investigate her death , which was given a "Section 20" postmortem, which means they have reason to believe the death was violent or suspicious. That being said, it was earlier Monday reported that police did not find any reason for suspicion .

British singer Amy Winehouse's final recording before her death in July , a duet with veteran crooner Tony Bennett , was released on what would have been her 28th birthday on Wednesday.
