Christmas, Preschool Style

Lots of excitement abounds as children get excited about the holiday season. I wanted to incorporate the holiday season into some areas of the classroom and have it be a learning process, as well. Our first undertaking was the magnetic marble painting. I had purchased white Chinet plates awhile back for this project. We used the Chinet plates, magnetic marbles, a magnet wand, two plastic spoons, and two colors of glittery paint. Valentine Heart Cone Tree Tutorial. Craft Tutorial: Pom Pom Tree

Have you finished embellishing your house with Christmas decorations yet? Well, I hadn’t even started yet until yesterday – no, I wasn’t been lazy (ok, maybe I was). We live in a little cottage, more than 150 yeas old, and everything is in very small scale – and unfortunately, we don’t have a proper mantel (well, there is one but it’s so narrow that I can’t really dress it up). So I had to come up with an alternative solution and decided to lay my Christmasy soul and ideas on a tiny space on a bookshelf. And what do I need for a tiny space? I’ve always loved the look of a gingerbread house, and I adore a Christmas village scene, but I haven’t had a village for several years.

Recycled Village of Gingerbread Houses

Gingerbread houses are fun, but all too often are temporary because they are made from actual gingerbread, icing and candies. I wanted a Christmas village made up of gingerbread houses, but one I could bring out each year. And, of course, you know I’m all about recycling, so using milk and juice cartons was exactly what I wanted to do. It’s not uncommon to make a gingerbread house from an empty milk carton. Kids do it all the time. I’ve been saving these milk and juice cartons for a while now.

Gingerbread man playhouse

There are so many fun books to share with the children and of course, there are the gingerbread cookies and gingerbread houses… To kick off our Gingerbread unit, we read the story “The Gingerbread Loose in the School” by Laura Murray. This is a super fun book about a class that makes a Gingerbread man but then leaves it to cool while going out to play. The Gingerbread man thinks he has been left behind so he goes off in search of the children and runs into a few obstacles along the way… After reading our story, the children went on a hunt for some paper Gingerbread men we had hidden around the classroom… After collecting all the Gingerbread men from around the classroom, we set them all out to see how many we had found… Then to get us stretching and moving and (and for a little listening practice too) we played “Gingerbread Man Says”….

Lance%20le%20d%C3%A9%20et%20dessine%21.
