Lucian Freud: Paintings of Stark Humanity. Lucian Freud was born in 1922, and is now 85 years old. He’s Britain’s most famous figurative painter, and possibly its oldest, best known for his raw and unforgiving paintings of nudes. Freud fascinates me for a few reasons, one being his utter devotion to capturing every harsh detail of a model. During the painting process (which can take hundreds of days), Freud will often go right up to the model and from inches away examine the colors and details of the flesh. Then, moving back to his canvas, he’ll paint for just a few strokes before returning again to scrutinize his subject at close range. The amount of discipline that takes is incredible, especially in a world where art is often created quickly and with more focus on emotion or other intangibles, rather than reality. Another interesting thing about Lucian Freud’s paintings is that much of his work is characterized by either obese models or very gaunt ones—opposite ends of the spectrum.

I’ve been a lover of Disney and the theme parks from a young age, with one of my favorite rides being the “Haunted Mansion”. (Known as the “Phantom Manor” in Disneyland Paris). A source of great ghostly inspiration! The aura of creepyness conbined with the comedy aspect allows the guests to feel a little nervous and jumpy, but at the same time feel in safe hands. This is the kind of feeling I wanted from my Chirk castle project at this stage.
Grim Grinning Ghosts! All three were part of Disney’s “Nine Old Men” who were a group of the company’s top imagineers and animators, and were involved in a number of famous works by the company, as well as creating concepts for the park itself. Another ghostly character. I found it very hard to begin this project, even with finally deciding on doing ghosts, and having sources of inspiration. Not exactly the scariest little spook... Like this: Like Loading... Welcome Foolish Mortals... I may have mentioned at some point that my all time favorite theme-park ride is Disney's Haunted Mansion. On my recent visit to the Anaheim park, my friend Lance told me about a record he had as a kid which featured a young Ron Howard trapped inside the mansion. I quickly pulled out my iPhone and looked up The Story and Song from The Haunted Mansion.
Turns out this hard-to-find Disneyland Records Storyteller long-playing featured the creepy soundtrack from the Disneyland attraction plus a narrated story about two teenagers who visit a haunted house. So, while shopping on Main Street USA, we popped into the book & record shop - only to find that The Story and Song from The Haunted Mansion is now out on cd! So of course we bought it! As soon as we got in the car, we popped it in the cd player! The story is narrated by Disney (and Frosted Flakes) Legend Thurl Ravenscroft - and tells the tale of Mike and Karen, two siblings who take refuge inside a eerie house during a thunderstorm.

This seems like a good occasion to ask the question, What makes the Haunted Mansion so different? Why does it generate and how does it sustain this level of interest, the kind that can fuel blogs and sustain entire websites for years, to say nothing of books and movies? I think the Haunted Mansion may be more psychologically seductive and intriguing than other attractions because, unlike most of them, it never asks you to stop being yourself in your own world.

Over the years I’ve been buying and trying different dip pens for inking. I received in the mail today a Deleter trial set which included a pen holder and 3 different nibs popular for Manga. Still not 100% comfortable with the scratchiness that these pens create and I wanted to do some tests before working on my final 4 pages for my comic art class. I couldn’t find a lot of information on the web about these specific dip pens, so I wanted to describe some of my initial thoughts here on my blog.
The 1st one is the Hunt 102 which I’ve been practicing with quite a bit and seems to be a pretty standard in American comics. The 3 Deleter pens I haven’t used before today, but have come across the names many times in blogs and books in the past. I am not big into brushes and likely to thicken certain areas after all the pen work is done, but at some point I did go and spend $30 on a Rafael Kolinsky Sable no. 2 watercolor brush. Але ж проблема на лице - хто це на обкладинці? Вгадайте, що це за тваринка!?
А як ви думаєте, дитинка, якій лише рочок чи півтора зрозуміє хто тут зображений? А як вам ці "красоти"? Ніби книжечка одна, а ілюстрації з різною графікою, до того ж жахливою. Ось ще один варіантик. Ще одну, подібну публікацію я просто викинула, не дивлячись на те, що змалечку батьки вчили не нищити книжок. Ще покажу вам кілька ілюстрацій, які моя дитина взагалі не сприймає. До того ж, не спостерігається зв'язку між текстом та ілюстраціями. Якась каша з елементів, а не композиція, на обкладинці. А це - дві ілюстрації з цієї абетки. Єнота я не впізнала, моя дитина також. It was directed and written by my good friend John Puglisi, and features some amazing hand drawn animation by Ken Duncan's studio. I got to design the characters for the 2D sequences and story board on a couple scenes as well.When John asked for me to design a shark for Gobber to take on I pleaded with him to let it be a HammerHead. The Great White seemed overdone and I always thought HammerHeads were cooler. I made this model sheet of the HammerHead shark based from boards done by Dave Pimentel.
These were some concepts for different appendages that Gobber could use for his arm. I had to create Gobber as 4 different ages. These were based from some of John's boards.
