Knit in garter stitch for 30 rows (15 bumps). Switch to Silke-Tweed color B and knit in garter stitch 30 rows (15 bumps). Repeat with colors C and D. Repeat four color pattern until scarf measures 76". Bind off loosely. Using Koigu, apply garter ruffle to surface and double ruffles at either end. Weave in ends. Winter 2006 - editor. One cowl is made from two skeins. If you're making it all yourself, you'll need one skein of each color. If you're working with a friend, both knitters should choose a color they love, and make one of each of the two links in their chosen color. This project uses a provisional cast on. Use your preferred provisional cast on technique; directions for one technique may be found here. One end of the scarf is worked with short rows so that it fans out on the end. Fluff Knit Pattern (FKP) Knit as normal until you reach a fluffy spot on the yarn: [K2, turn, k2, turn]. Repeat until the yarn returns to normal. Finish the row as normal. Fluff Purl Pattern (FPP) Purl as normal until you reach a fluffy spot on the yarn: [P2, turn, p2, turn]. Tip #1: Turning the work back and forth can make you forget which way you were heading.

To work short rows, work to the point indicated in the pattern, then turn your work around and begin working back in the other direction. Holes will form in your work at the turning points of the short rows; don't worry! This is to be expected. One of these holes will be used as a buttonhole when the project is completed. The pattern uses 2 stitch markers to help you keep track of your short rows. 2x2 Rib (Worked back and forth over a multiple of 4 sts): Row 1: [K2, p2] to end.
