US NSF - News - Science of the Olympic Winter Games. Science of the Olympic Winter Games 2010 NBC Learn, the educational arm of NBC News, has teamed up with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to produce Science of the Olympic Winter Games, a 16-part video series that explores the science behind individual Olympic events, including Downhill and Aerial Skiing, Speed Skating and Figure Skating, Curling and Hockey, and Ski Jumping, Bobsledding and Snowboarding.

US NSF - News - Science of the Olympic Winter Games

This groundbreaking project between the NSF and NBC Learn uses the global spotlight of the Olympics to make science more accessible and more interesting to students by showing how science helps athletes fulfill the Olympic motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius--Swifter, Higher, Stronger. The E.ON Energy Experience The E.ON Energy Experience has been created to help teachers to teach young people about energy.

E.ON UK - Energy Experience - Energy

The resources will help young people to understand about the different sources of energy we use, the relative merits of each, the options for energy production going forward and what their choices will mean locally, nationally and globally. Young people aged 5-16 will be given the essential facts and figures. But more importantly, will be allowed to make virtual decisions about all stages of energy production, distribution and consumption and see the different effects of those decisions. E.ON has worked closely with the education community to ensure that the programme offers an exciting interactive resource. The E.ON Energy Experience activities require the free Macromedia Flash Player 8 or above. Main navigation. Girls in physics. Girls are under-represented in physics post-16 across the UK.

Girls in physics

For more than 25 years, only around 20% of students progressing on to A-level physics have been girls, despite about equal success between the genders in GCSE physics and science. The issue is one that the Institute has been seeking to understand and address for a number of years, both by supporting research and helping individual teachers of physics become aware of the issues and amend their classroom practice. Research has shown that: Students’ interest in science declines as they progress through school and the decline appears to become steeper after age 14, particularly for girls and particularly in physics.Girls, more than boys, experience a difference between their personal goals for learning and the learning objectives of the physics curriculum. As a consequence they are less inclined to opt for physics, even if they achieve high grades and enjoy the subject. Books for Hubble and Webb. Trek. Education. Practical Physics. This website is for teachers of physics in schools and colleges.

Practical Physics

It is a collection of experiments that demonstrate a wide range of physical concepts and processes. Some of the experiments can be used as starting-points for investigations or for enhancement activities. Many have links to carefully selected further reading and all include information and guidance for technicians. Physics is a practical science. Practical activities are not just motivational and fun: they can also sharpen students’ powers of observation, stimulate questions, and help develop new understanding and vocabulary.
