The half-hour documentary, directed by Lance Bangs and executive produced by Spike Jonze, captures a series of powerful testimonials from HIV positive patients. Many of these stories seem like miracles, but they aren’t. When 19th curves around and turns into Cottonwood Expressway, the Cherokee flips it's brights on, and now I think "That's not very nice, doesn't he know that's probably bothersome to the Honda in front of him? " We get to the intersection where I would normally turn to go home. Without thinking at all, I simultaneously try to throw my car into park, flip on my brights, honk my horn, call 911, and undo my seatbelt and get out of my car. I'm not trying to puff myself up here, and as you'll soon find out I didn't actually do anything. What do I do? I wasn't thinking, at all. Pixie. Mind Hacks: The rehabilitation of Phineas Gage. Medical journal Neuropsychological Rehabilitation has a fascinating article on Phineas Gage’s years after his dramatic injury, updating previous accounts and suggesting he made a remarkable recovery after his initial change in character.
The piece is co-authored by Malcolm Macmillan, author of the definitive Gage book An Odd Kind of Fame and can contains many important updates and corrections on the story since the biography was released. Unfortunately, the article is locked behind a $30 paywall (harsh, bit it keeps the plebs out) which is a pity as it carefully dsicusses Gage’s post-injury life and notes that while he seemed to have a marked change in character and behaviour shortly after the tamping iron was blown through his frontal lobes, in the long-term, he seemed to recover very well.

Mountsberg Raptor Centre! Last Monday, after TCAF, we got to go to the Mountsberg Raptor Institute. Yuko's longtime friend Amy showed us around, telling us a lot about the birds and allowing us to hold several of them. Some pictures from the visit below, This is Teddy, the star of today's strip - she's the friendliest owl you'll ever meet. If you hold her for a while she'll lean into you and fall asleep - totally cute. Awww yeaaah. This is Amy and Pawgwa, an adolescent bald eagle. Pawgwa's wingspan is huge. Majestic.
