For the longest time ( as long as I’ve been building personal websites ) we’ve used FTP to upload files to a server that typically we pay a monthly fee for … … or we dabble with content management systems or blogging software hosted by a third party, sometimes paying for that too. Earlier this year, I came across GitHub pages, a ‘static’ website approach built on git commits with plain old back to basics HTML5. It especially excited me as a website developer, because combined with an online development tool, I can now conveniently program my website, entirely from a web browser, and that’s how I work now … … my website is here — it is a github pages project and it was hand built and developed entirely using Google Chrome [ I should say I’m still working on it, so it may not all work as you expect just yet ].
