What Does It Feel Like To Be a Smart Person?

Answer by an anonymous user on Quora: Being smart is usually an incredible gift but occasionally a difficult burden. At the peak of my high school math competition "career," I was ranked about 25th in the United States among all high-school students. Given that there were about 15 million high school students in the U.S., this put my math skills somewhere in the 1-in-a-100,000 to 1-in-1-million range. Being that good at something had several significant benefits.

Anyway, the confidence was great, and doing well in various math competitions helped me get into some of the top universities, which resulted in me getting great jobs after college, and subsequently led to a very happy and successful career (so far). I assumed intelligence and academics were all that mattered, and things like friendships, sports, etc., were nice, but not as important.

It’s one of those things that regularly inspires awe in me, even though I spend several hours a day interacting with it (both professionally and recreationally). But with such an immense amount of information, it’s difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. While there are many fantastic websites chock full of accurate data and intelligent ideas, there are probably 100 times more that are pretty much useless. A sad fact, but a fact nonetheless. Which is why it’s so important, if you spend any amount of time poking around the web, that you have a few oases – diamonds in the rough, if you will. In my many, many hours of perusing the Internet, I’ve come across my fair share of websites. It's a dreary day, so I thought I'd indulge myself and come up with a list of my favorite comedies. A caveat, however: this is not a fancy English-professor-y list of the finest, most exquisitely crafted, most erudite or intellectually sophisticated works on paper in the language. This is a list of the books that make me laugh until my mascara starts to run. These are books to read over your first cup of coffee or just before you go to sleep . Remember: a day you've laughed is day you haven't wasted--even if you didn't get out of bed. 25 Ways 2 Make Money 4 Teens. Cara Santa Maria here. How do you define beauty? What are the factors that govern whether or not you find someone physically attractive? This question has plagued philosophers and artists for millennia. And now, modern scientists think they're close to finding that magical formula for physical beauty. When it comes to sexual attraction, we've known for some time that men prefer a waist-to-hip ratio of around 70%.

Another thing we've noticed is that across cultures (and even across species), animals are most attracted to mates that have highly symmetrical faces. A southern California plastic surgeon named Dr. Since then, other researchers have found golden ratios of their own, but not of the Pythagorean variety. Now get this: repeated studies have found that people are most attracted to people who look like themselves. And you won't believe what researchers at Albright College have been up to. I'm not convinced.
