Mysterious Tubular Clouds Defy Explanation

Known as Morning Glory clouds, they appear every fall over Burketown, Queensland, Australia, a remote town with fewer than 200 residents. A small number of pilots and tourists travel there each year in hopes of “cloud surfing” with the mysterious phenomenon. Similar tubular shaped clouds called roll clouds appear in various places around the globe. But nobody has yet figured out what causes the Morning Glory clouds. This shot was captured by photographer Mick Petroff from his plane near Australia’s Gulf of Carpenteria. Yes, if you take about 20 of the pieces in this 125-piece puzzle and put them together properly, you'll have a fully-functional single-shot .45 caliber handgun. Uh, cool? Luckily, the whole thing requires a special key to begin disassembling it, so the chances of some kid stumbling upon it at a toy store and ending up with a deadly weapon are slim to none. Burning cavern in Davarez Russia

Located in Uzbekistan near the small town of Davarez is this cavern that has been burning for 35 miles. Geologists drilling for gas found the giant cavern they found poison gas and being Russians they decided to ignite the gas to get rid of it. The crater is more than 30 metres across and nearly twice as deep. The Soviets have long since abandoned the site and rusting equipment is lying throughout the area. The natural gas ignited more than 35 years ago still burns round the clock, and there is no estimate of how much as burned – this could be the source of all that global warming. Hiding the Lockheed Plant during World War II - wow this is amazing!

This is a version of special effects during the 1940's. I have never seen these pictures or knew that we had gone this far to protect ourselves. During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from a possible Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air. Before... After.. The person I received this from said she got back an interesting story about someone's mother who worked at Lockheed, and she as a younger child, remembers all this.

Another person who lived in the area talked about as being a boy, watching it all be set up like a movie studio production. Note.... I am 85 and had much of my pilot training in Calif. 33 of the World’s Strangest Buildings. 33 of the World’s Strangest Buildings Posted by Editor on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 · 27 Comments 1.

The Astounding Design Of Eixample, Barcelona

Influenced by a range of schools of architecture, Eixample Barcelona was designed in a grid pattern with long streets, wide avenues, and rounded street corners. Despite being in the center of a thriving European metropolis, the district provides improved living conditions for inhabitants including extensive sun light, improved ventilation, and more open green space for public use.

And of course, the result from the grid-like structure is astounding from above:
